Agreed. Also noticed too that once you've seen it and know how things play out, its easier to follow the plot and characters as well.. Also found it amazing that the opening sequence is about 25 min long, as it doesn't feel that long at all, the dialogue and the tension are so good that you lose track of time.

I just watched this for the first time tonight. Went in with High hopes but came out feeling disappointed. I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as people are saying.

It happens. I know many loved District 9 but it never really grabbed my attention...

It grabbed my attention quite well, then over the course of the film lessened its grip and by the time it had degenerated into transformers 3 for the third act, I had checked out. But the first hour was near-brilliant.

That is true, the first act was pretty damn good, but yeah, as it went on, it did go downhill.

I think he was just trying to defend his turf. I never got the assumption that you did about him and Bridgette. He was a french bar owner, who served those who came to his bar. In that moment he was going to take care of those that would visually seemed to be the cause of the mayhem.

Finally got to see this one last week, and I have no problem going the full monty (*****). Second favorite movie of the year so far, behind only (500) Days of Summer. Going to love to revisit this one.

Finally saw this on BD.
I enjoyed the film a lot, but I can see how some people wouldn't care for it basically turning into a comedy in the final act.

It gets too ridiculous by that point to take seriously, for me. Still enjoyable though.

Watched this again the other night... this time I put my television in monochrome mode for the third chapter, "German Night in Paris." In the original script, it mentioned that this part was to have been in b&w so it would come off like French new-wave. It worked quite well within the context of the film and I sort of wish he would have left it that way.
This movie definitely improves on subsequent viewings; particularly the long dialog scenes like Landa and the dairy farmer, the restaurant scene, and the bar scene, which sort of surprises me.
