If I were playing, I would make a case each round why movie is better than the one it's matched up against. I wouldn't go with a stock description or tagline.

I'm hoping for dirty fights.

The voting threads are gonna be open Thursday for publicity(Dirty Fighting). But the voting won't start until Friday, giving the producers a full day to sound their films praises. The stock description in post #1 is there to help the casual onlooker/voter

South
Mano
woody5254

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Here's a question I had that will affect if I keep or drop a franchise:

I chose Jim Henson and Frank Oz as supporting actors, since they did the voices of the Muppets. Am I able to use them for multiple Muppets (i.e. Jim Henson is Kermit AND the Swedish Chef, etc.), or are they stuck each doing one?

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Looks like we're missing four picks from Mano and eight from Fist of Doom. These will be filled by the players here if we don't hear from them this week.

"The Muppets" I think is broad enough that you can incorporate anyone in the Muppets universe. I would probably not allow other stuff that Frank Oz or Jim Henson would've worked on outside of "The Muppets"...

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Right, unless I picked those franchises (Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc.). I wasn't intending to use those, just needed to make sure I would be able to use Henson and Oz as multiple Muppets.

Alright, looks like we have all the pieces. The schedule will be posted sometime today and we will start a thread for the first round of matches.

Please send me a short 1-to-3 sentence summary of the movie (something you'd see in a TV Guide, for example). We will use the thread so you can start making fun of the other movie.

PM sent. I was working on one of my posters last night and my wife asked me what I was doing. Upon hearing my respose she said: "I never knew you were such a nerd before we got married." This is comming from a woman whose favorite show is Deep Space Nine and loves Anne McCaffrey.

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Attention!

We've received summaries of most of the players. While a few of you are still AWOL, some of the theater distributors (via studio execs) have contacted us and complained that having all the films in one summer weekend would be disastrous for the box office.

They've asked each one of us to select our preference for which release window you want to open up in. The available windows are:

Memorial Day
Independence Day
August

Please send ME a PM anytime after 11:00AM Eastern tomorrow (9/2) with your preference order, such as:

1) August
2) Memorial Day
3) Independence Day

You'll be fit in depending on the timeliness of your PM and your preference.

There are only 4 slots in each release window, so keep this in mind as you'll be battling each other for the elusive DVD Talk audience's attention!

The Bus 09-01-09 04:09 PM

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Take into consideration that each weekend (thread) will be spaced out so if you need more time to market, etc. you want to pick a later weekend. The Memorial Weekend thread is likely to appear within the next week.

Also, if you have any last minute changes, your time to do so has expired. Execs have asked primary photography to begin ASAP and they won't tolerate any cast or crew changes.

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Will we have a chance to write a paragraph or 2 to flesh out our story or is the summary it?

Groucho 09-01-09 04:51 PM

Re: Be the Producer — A Movie Talk Draft Game

Paragraph or two? I'm posting my full screenplay.

I would write a screenplay for this but 3 of my actors are dead and the other 3 are old.

Anything past a summary is up to you to do in the thread(s) with your movie.
