It's The Little Things: Smaller Moments in Movies

Everyone has favorite scenes, favorite lines, etc. But are there little moments in films that no one talks about that you adore? I'll give two examples of mine:

Planes Trains and Automobiles - When Steve Martin is trying to determine why he recognizes John Candy in the airport for the first time, instead of flashing back to the moment they met on the streets of New York, they simply put a car door in front of Candy's face there in the airport and have him recreate his expression. Makes me laugh every time.

Star Trek V - As the bridge crew is in awe of what they're seeing on their viewscreen, the camera slowly floats by them all, and as the music swells, it zeros in on a monitor that no one is watching where the Klingon Bird of Prey is shown entering the sector. It's a nicely done bit of camera work and scoring.

My favorite scene in Serenity is a short fight betweem Malcolm and Simon. Simon sucker punches Malcolm and as Malcolm is lying on the ground he loses his English and naturally starts to swear in Chinese. For some reason that scene just cracks me up!

There's a great shot in Jaws when one of the yellow barrels flies by Roy Scheider and it's so close it knocks his glasses off his face. An Awesome shot.

The Matrix - when Cypher offers Neo a drink and says, "good shit, huh"

Misery - when Richard Farnsworth comments that his wife's sarcasm is what adds spice to their marriage.

The scene that made me laugh hardest in South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut is a small scene that no one ever talks about. Right after they finish telling all of their friends about the Terence & Phillip movie, Cartman and Kenny are standing alone by a lake, and Cartman says, very calmly, "I hate you Kenny."

For some reason that really cracked me up.

From the same movie, when the giant clitoris says "Dude..." to Stan I fall out laughing.

Not sure if this moment is small enough to meet the OP's intent, but here is a great little scene from a great, and fairly recent, American film.

MIDNIGHT RUN - DeNiro meets his daughter for the first time in nearly 8 years, and there is only awkward silence as she stares curiously at him. Grodin is in the background looking around the house and trying to stay unnoticed.

AMADEUS - F. Murray Abraham smiles then frowns after saying "I didn't."

ELECTION - The still frame of Reese Witherspoon's contorted face as Matthew Broderick starts talking about her.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP - Nurse Jenny: "He's dead already."

SUPERMAN - Christopher Reeve removes his glasses and straightens his posture to reveal his secret to Lois, then changes his mind and reverts back to Clark Kent.

CASINO - The TV orchestra playing KC and the Sunshine Band's "That The Way (I Like It) on the "Ace's High" show.

THE GODFATHER PART III - Don Altoblello smiling slyly to Vincent Corleone after learning his plans: "Of course, you love the girl, and the girl loves you."

SUPERMAN RETURNS - The music swells as we see Lois and Superman float past the Daily Planet structure and above the city.

INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM - Indy and Short Round exchange hats.

The Simpsons Movie - When the EPA pick up the multi-eyed squirrel, their large, lumbering truck zips away with a hybrid engine hum.

The Empire Strikes Back - When Boba Fett and Lando stare each other down as Han Solo screams in the other room while Darth Vader tortures him.

Clue - When Miss Scarlett screams on the first floor and everyone upstairs rushes down to find out what's going on... only to have Wadsworth, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, and Evette all collide in a brilliant four-person pratfall.

One of my faves is in Ghostbusters when they catch Slimer in the hotel. Egon slyly rubs his face with four fingers and Venkman tells the hotel manager it's gonna cost four thousand dollars.

In AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, during the transformation scene, the random shot of a Mickey Mouse figure on a table. Decades later I found out it was a personal Landis in joke/dig at Disney, but its still wonderfully peculiar.

In WILD AT HEART, Harry Dean Stanton laying in his hotel room watching a nature documentary, a bunch of hyena's viciously tearing apart a kill, and Harry smiles and does this little playful, "Arf, arf!" dog yelp.

From the same movie: When Naughton starts to change into werewolf in movie theater he is gripping the seat in front of him and breaks it. Lifted directly from HARDCORE where George C. Scott, searching for his missing daughter, sees her in a porn movie and grips the seat in front of him so hard he breaks it.

The scene near the end of Way of the Gun where Del Toro empties the Galil(?). The sound design and destruction was just great. This movie has probably the best gunfights in terms of realism than any other I have seen.

Near the end of Saving Private Ryan when the US soldier (forget his name) is being stabbed by the German (that they had earlier released) and he keeps saying "no, wait, wait, stop" -- literally begging for his life... hits me right in the gut when I think about it.

I don't have much for this thread. But I sure do like the 'same shit happened to me last year' part in Wild At Heart. There's something about it that's tragic. And it only takes a few seconds.

When Marlo stumbles and falls in her apartment and Tyler Durden chuckles. Love that part.

In Clear and Present Danger, Ding Chavez takes a sniper shot while rescuing Jack Ryan. Right before the camera cuts away, he calmly picks up his shell casing. That's an awesome touch because a) it's a movie and b) it didn't really matter if his shell was there or not. They were already bugging out. Just shows that he's a professional any way you cut it and a nice little realistic moment.

Goddamn I want a Rainbow Six movie.
