Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
I debated where to put this so...
op 20 1. Lestat, Interview With the Vampire 2. Christopher Lee’s Dracula 3. Bela Lugosi’s Dracula 4. Edward Cullen, Twilight 5. Bill and Eric, True Blood 6. Asa Vajda, 1960’s Black Sunday 7. Angel 8. Mr. Barlow, Salem’s Lot 9. Schuyler Van Alen, Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Bloods series 10. Gary Oldman’s Dracula 11. Klaus Kinski’s Dracula 12. Zoey Redbird, P.C. and Kristin Cast’s House of Night series 13. Jean-Claude, Laurel K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series 14. David, 1987’s The Lost Boy 15. Miriam Blaylock and Sarah Roberts, 1983’s The Hunger 16. Blade, the Blade trilogy 17. Eli, 2008’s Let the Right One In 18. Countess Bathory, 1971’s Daughters of Darkness 19. Selene, the Underworld trilogy 20. Caleb and Mae, 1987’s Near Dark Let the riots begin on Edward Cullen being better then Angel |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
I'm surprised they thought to put Klaus Kinski in there.
|
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
of course TRUE BLOOD would rank higher than any of the established classics.
|
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Sissy-boy from Twilight anywhere near the top 10= FAIL.
I don't know if they pick Lestat from the books or the movie (although I actually think Cruise was really very good as the movie version), but decent call, although considering how hugely influential he was, not having Lugosi at the top is rather a slap in the face. Without Bela, you got nobody. |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
EW has a MAJOR hard-on for anything Twilight. They almost always have some sort of news about that franchise.
Gary Oldman is only at #10? |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Also i was kind of disapointed that Spike didn't make the list period.
|
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
No Udo Kier? EW missed the boat.
|
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Caleb and Mae from "Near Dark" but no Jesse Hooker? FAIL!
|

Lee should be #1, no question.
Also, no Jerry Dandridge? Miserable fail. |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Edward over Angel? Add that to my list of reasons I dont read or put any stock in EW.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
This list is an outrage! No John Amplas? No Jay Robinson?? Not to mention George Hamilton???!
Really, though, couldn't they find a spot for Max Schreck? I mean, he was even played by Willem Dafoe, which has to count for something  |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Bullshit list without Jerry Dandridge somewhere near the top.

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Before I opened the thread, I figured this was EW taking the opportunity to pimp Twilight.
No Blacula? No sale! |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
This list sucks blood.
No mention of everyone's favorite childhood count? http://images.wikia.com/muppet/image...T-p0001-ST.jpg |

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
how is Max Schrek not on this list?
|
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
Good god, I hadn't noticed Schrek wasn't on the list before. That's blasphemy right there! (Although I still argue Lugosi was more influential on the general vampire archetype as we know it, "I vant to drink your blood" and all that lot; but "Nosferatu" stlll remains one hell of a visual.)

http://images.wikia.com/muppet/image...T-p0001-ST.jpg I'm surprised EW ranked the Twilight kid so low considering how much they suck up to that franchise. |
Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this link between Twilight and EW. I actually didn't renew my subscription for that very reason (go figure, my last issue had Twilight on the cover). I did a big cleaning last week and was going through back issues, when I came across a July 2008 issue with Twilight on the cover. I decided to see how many other covers and mentions is has received since July 2008.
Full Cover - 4 Small Pics on Cover - 4 Mentions in Text Only - 6 That's 14 fucking references to Twilight on their covers in a one year span. This is over 1 fucking movie that has been out less than a year! I can't imagine how many times it's been mentioned inside the magazine. For instance, in this issue they have a Muse single on their Must List. Muse is a great band and deserves to be on that list, but check out their notes under the pick "Twilight author Stephanie Meyer endorsed these epic Brits, and her fans will love their new single: The song evokes Edward spending a dark, stormy night playing Queen covers on the living room piano." What the fuck does Twilght have to do with Muse?!! End rant. p.s. I want to marry Twilight (translation: Twilight makes me want to drown kittens) |

No George Hamilton? Fuck that list.

The same shit happened with the Harry Potter series when it was at this stage of production. |

On one of their lists about all-time t.v. icons they had John Stewert on the list but not Bill O'Reilly. Even though Bill beats him in the ratings. |

Re: Entertainment Weekly's Top 20 Vampires of all time
well to make some of you happy, they also did a 'sexiest vampires' list and Eric from True Blood did beat out Edward (and Eric was no 1). The magazine also has interviews with the 2 authors of those books
