Movies about Assassins?
Lately, I've been enjoying movies featuring assassins. Here are ones I've watched so far:
Assassins - fun popcorn flick, this makes my 2nd time watching it, and the plot holes were a bit annoying. Lucky Number Slevin - awful title for a movie. I had no interest or idea what it was about. It started out in a quirky art film style. I also can't stand Josh Hartnett. Despite my misgivings, this movie blew me away, and is now in my top 10. It is smart, funny, and a must see for fans of movies like The Usual Suspects. And it has another classic Willis line: "I'm a world-class assassin, fuckhead. How do you think I found out? " The Professional - one of the best movies from the 90s. Still holds up well today. I miss Gary Oldmen being the ultimate baddy. Collateral - well directed with its own unique mood and style. Tom Cruise is so quiet and deadly in this film. Hitman - some good action scenes, but this movie made absolutely no sense to me. No Country for Old Men - like a lot of people, I didn't really get the ending. It plays as a fun chase movie, then suddenly changes its mind and goes more for the art film storytelling. The 2nd time I watched it, I enjoyed it a lot more especially digging into the twisted moral code of Anton Chigurh. Can anyone recommend some other movies about assassins? |

Two more recent ones I really liked a lot. Not so much the typical assassin/hitman films.
In Bruges The Matador |

Anime:
THE PROFESSIONAL: GOLGO 13 (1983) GOLGO 13: QUEEN BEE (1998) Hong Kong: BLACK CAT (1991) (remake of LA FEMME NIKITA and far superior, IMHO) BLACK CAT II: THE ASSASSINATION OF YELTSIN (1992) Hollywood: SUDDENLY (1954) Frank Sinatra goes after the President THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (1962) - a bit of a stretch, but I think it fits JFK (1991) |

This Gun For Hire (1942) - starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. It is one of the foundation films of the sub-genre. It's somewhat disheartening to see how little it gets mentioned in comparison to its offspring - LE SAMOURAI - and the rest.

I must second (third?) this recommendation from the linked thread:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg Dirt cheap from Amazon Marketplace since it was one of the Big Lots $3 titles, and worth every penny (and then some). |
