Sounds like About Schmidt. Could be good but DeNiro kind of sucks

I haven't seen De Niro be an awesome actor since HEAT...in other things he was ok or horrible. I'd like see him with Marty again.

I'm not really a fan of Barrymore, but otherwise the cast is good. This could have potential, but I'd have to see what the tone of the film will be before deciding if I wanted to see it. Is it going to be serious, goofy comedy, or that quirkiness that Suprmallet hates?

This sounds very generic, but it could be good.

From what I recall About Schmidt was okay. A few chuckles here and there...and then they whack you at the end out of left field and you tear up. :(

Kirk Jones is no Giuseppe Tornatore and 2009 Deniro is no Marcello Mastroianni.

Has potential but the plot has been done before like others have mentioned.

With that logic, Hollywood might as well close down and stop making movies. There hasn't been any originality in film in ages.

It has Beckinsale in it, that's good enough for me.

Trailer

Looks horrible. I couldn't even make it through the trailer.

I hate using this word, but meh. Nice cast but not even sure I'll see it on DVD/BD...

When I saw this trailer in front of Extract a week or so ago, I was initially excited. De Niro in something that wasn't shitty? Then the rest of the trailer played out and I went back to being disappointed.

Yeah, the trailer didn't do anything for me either.

I agree with the sentiments here, this looks like the kind of movie that agents send to their clients so they can fill their "feel-good" quota.

In "Everybody's Fine", Robert Deniro plays Frank, a recently widowed father of 4 adult children (Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, Austin Lysy), none of them are able to visit him for the holdiays, so he embarks on a cross-country trip to visit each child at their homes. Frank is the cliched father type who never could see his children for who they are, but rather who they were, small grade school children, while his wife managed all the details of the children's lives and kept Frank's arrested development in fatherhood in check until her demise.

The film follows Frank on this trip, where he isn't able to contact David in New York, so he heads on over to Chicago and visits with Amy (Beckinsale) and her family which is cut short due to schedules, then Frank shows up in Colorado and meets up wit Robert (Rockwell), and finally he makes it to Las Vegas to get together with Rosie (Barrymore). Throughout the journey, the siblings backchannel chatter is mainly about David's situation, and how they all agree to keep things from Frank until they know more information.

The film is probably more sentimental it needs to be as Frank comes to grips with the truth of his children's own journeys into adulthood, and how not everything is ideal in his children's lives.

I give it 2.5 stars or a grade of C+.

Re: Everybody's Fine (Jones, 2009): De Niro, Barrymore, Beckinsale, Rockwell

I just watched this recently (thanks to the free Showtime weekend a couple of weeks ago). I thought it was rather good. It was pretty easy figuring out what each of the kids were keeping from their Dad, but I thought the actors all did a good job with their roles. Maybe I'm a sucker for sap, but I like what happened when the father went back to buy David's painting.

Seems like everyone at the time of it's theatrical release was pretty dismissive. Anyone else watch it after that, and if so your thoughts?
