Short Memorable Performances?

Either an extended cameo or a performance that doesn't quite qualify for a 'supporting actor'.

What are some of your favorites?

Some of mine...

Alec Baldwin - Glengarry Glen Ross (duh!)
Vanessa Redgrave - Atonement
Lee Fierro - Jaws
Gary Oldman- True Romance
Christopher Lee- Sleepy Hollow
Toni Collette- The Hours
John Turturro- To Live and Die in LA
Beatrice Straight- Network (Yeah she won best supporting actress, but was onscreen for 5 minutes 40 seconds)

Crispin Glover in Wild At Heart ... and I always remember that "same shit happened to me last week man" guy too. Maybe more because of Lynch, than the actor. I don't know.

R. Lee Ermey in ... a lot ... I always remember Full Metal Jacket and the TCM remake (yea yea yea).

Doh! Only the best scene in the film. I knew I should have thought this through a bit more before posting.

I love all of the ones already mentioned. In addition, off the top of my head...

Jason Bateman in Smokin' Aces
Alec Baldwin in The Departed

And I would be tempted to include Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading, but I guess he had a fairly large role. Just not large enough.

Jo Van Fleet in EAST OF EDEN (1955). James Dean is curious about the mother who abandoned him in infancy and he's in for quite a shock when, against his father's wishes, he finally goes to see her at the whorehouse she runs. It's a short, powerful scene and Van Fleet won Best Supporting Actress for playing this role.

Peter Lorre in the title role of STRANGER ON THE THIRD FLOOR (1940), often cited as the first bonafide film noir to be produced in Hollywood. Lorre only turns up near the end and his performance recalls his seminal portrayal of the child killer in M (1931).

And let's not forget Lorre's memorable bit as Ugarte in CASABLANCA (1943):
"Do something for me, Rick, do something!"
"I stick my neck out for no one."
And they cart poor Lorre off, never to be heard from again, but not before he's managed to slip Rick (Bogart) the film's "maguffin," the letters of transit later eagerly sought by Rick's former lover, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), for herself and her freedom fighter husband Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid).

"I'M MAKING MY LUNCH!" has become a sort of in-joke between my friends.

Agreed on the True Romance and Pulp entries, plus Spacey, Baldwin, Turturro, and Bateman (the best part of Aces, I might add).

I'll add:

Cloris Leachman and John Ritter in Bad Santa
Harry Dean Stanton and Isaac Hayes in Escape from New York
Bruce Campbell in Escape from L.A.
Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight
Woody Harrelson in No Country for Old Men
Catherine O'Hara in After Hours
Dan Aykroyd in Into the Night

She also gives a memorable performance in a brief role as Newman's mother in Cool Hand Luke.
