Almost Famous is one of the best movies of the decade. Therefore 2000 is not a bad year. Not too mention a little known film titled Memento.

Aghh, how could I forget TWBB and No Country?

I forgot all the good in 2007 due to how bad the big summer movies were, hahah.

What an awful movie. I remember wanting to hang myself after seeing it.

I would agree with you but it seems my brain has done the work for me. I can't recall a single frame of film, but I know I saw it in the theater on a date. My brain must have put a noose on that memory and strangled the life out of it.

My absolute two favorite films from this decade, however as pointed out Memento didn't hit the US until 2001.

Memento was 2000/2001's "Taken" ... if you know what I mean. But yeah you're correct.

I forgot the US saw a delayed release of 'Memento' considering I saw the film in London in 2000

this summer suffered from the writers strike. which is why harry potter got pushed back. I do agree that it has been a sucky summer.. worse then 1988 and 1991.
I have only seen 3 movies: star trek, t4, and up. I did like watchmen very much.

I'm pretty sure that isn't why Potter got pushed back. (Filming ended on May 17th, 2008).

No, it actually was as a result of the writer's strike. Even though Potter was finished filming, several other movies that were set to release this summer got delayed because of the writers strike. With fewer competitors, WB saw an opportunity and delayed HBP until this summer.

True enough, all financial strategy for the books more so than absolute profit.

nope, I liked all the movies I seen this year except for Wolverine. I thought Terminator was really good. Transformers was alot of fun, Star Trek was good though lacking in the action department, Watchmen was pretty good, I think the extended cut will be better, but I loved

The Hangover
Up
I love you man'
Taken
etc

I like popcorn movies. I don't tend to agree with Critics that much. I still think There Will Be Blood is one of the worst movies I ever seen.

Isn't LAND OF THE LOST the only bomb so far this summer?
If so that's not a bad summer.

Imagine That is a HUGE bomb.
Drag Me to Hell can ONLY be looked at as a disappointment.

Unless of course you're looking at it from a creative or artistic angle, in my book it's a huge success.

Imagine That was a huge bomb. I don't see how DMTH can be considered a disappointment though, a $30m making $40m in theaters so it can be released on DVD in time for Halloween doesn't seem all that bad to me.

That said, neither Imagine That nor Drag Me To Hell were expected to be huge. Neither was a "Summer" picture by traditional terms.

Land of the Lost was a bomb, Terminator: Salvation was a disappointment, though.

A low-budget horror flick that made over $40 million domestically and will clean up on home video can ONLY be looked at as a success.

'88 and '91 were both pretty damn good. Maybe not as good as '89, but I don't think '89 will probably ever be touched in terms of quality week in and week out.

Now you wanna talk about stinkers, what about 1987? The top grossing film of that year was Three Men And A Baby.

Re: Is this the worst year for movies ever?

Drag me to Hell made Worldwide: $57,321,858 that's a good haul for a horror film in May. And like someone said..the DVD of it will kick even more ass.
