Weird voiceover lines...but looks good. The comic is fantastic.

The voiceover reminds me of Jaws for some reason.

The trailer looked pretty good.

Strangely enough, I'd rather see Underworld: 3. This seems a movie someone from a CW TV show would make, not Kate.

Not that that'll stop me from seeing it, I'll see anything with Kate. :)

I dig movies set in remote Antarctic (or Arctic) research facilities.
That - plus Kate Beckinsale

A no brainer. I'm in...

Are they finally going to release this? It's been sitting on a shelf for the past couple of years.

Yup, same feelings, plus I really dig the comic.

Saw the new trailer on RottenTomatoes.com today. It reminds me of The Thing.

I was interested based on the plot and whatnot but...considering it's been held back for soooo long. It doesn't sound like good things happened in that time. Anyone know why it took so long?

It certainly looks interesting but the release date worries me. Isn't September when most studio's let loose their turkeys on the public?

Re: Whiteout---Kate Beckinsale

Looks good. So am I right in assuming the trailers are edited in a misleading manner and there are no supernatural shenanigans in his movie. I looked up some info on the comic and it gave me no indication that it was anything more than a serial killer hunt set in Antarctica. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm still looking forward to this.

Re: Whiteout---Kate Beckinsale

As far as I know that's the plot. What I still don't know is why it took this long to finally come out when it wrapped production a long time ago.

Re: Whiteout---Kate Beckinsale

Usually means it sucks ass, though Warner was going through some financial issues at the time and may have just shuffled this release. Plus "sucks ass" for Dark Castle is almost a given, so I'm sure that isn't the real reason.

Really? WB having issues financially, wow.

The posters for this movie go back and forth. The original poster and final poster are both by a company called Concept Arts. They also both suck ass.

http://www.impawards.com/2009/whiteout_ver3.html

The first one looks like they took a Sylvester Stallone movie from 1991 and pasted Kate Beckinsale's face on it, although I'll give them credit for the cool tagline (no pun intended). The latter is one of the most overwhelmingly boring posters I've ever seen in my entire life. It's not even a poster, it's just her face with a Photoshop effect on it.

This one was done by Mojo LLC and is fantastic. I'd hang that poster. I wonder if it ever actually ended up in theaters or not.

Is this based on the graphic novel? If it is I highly suggest you read it, it's short and a great read.

Not a fan of Ms. Beckinsale. She's sorta pretty in a vapid, soulless way, but her films have been extremely mediocre across the board (save for "The Aviator", and quite frankly she was forgettable in that too).

Add in last summer/September release date + a film that's been sitting on the shelves = I will pretty much never see the fucker.

I thought she was pretty solid in Nothing But The Truth and Snow Angels .

What an ignorant comment. Kate Beckinsale was terrific in Snow Angels, Winged Creatures, and Nothing But the Truth. You should also check out some of her British films. She was anything but forgettable in Aviator either, even if her character in that film was severely underdeveloped and insignificant. If anything I thought Cate Blanchette's performance was worse, hammy and over the top. She's a great actress who hasn't always chosen the best roles.

She ran into a bit of bad luck with a couple of the films mentioned. The releasing company for Nothing But the Truth went belly up right before awards season. Otherwise she might have gotten more recognition than just her Critic's Choice nomination. Winged Creatures pretty much suffered a similar fate and received an extremely limited release, in only a couple of cities.

As for the "sort of pretty in a vapid, soulless way" comment. Are you blind or gay? ;) Kate Beckinsale isn't sort of pretty. That would be the biggest understatement ever uttered. She's downright astonishing, and the hottest woman in this business as far as I'm concerned.

A few stills from the film.

The book is basically a murder mystery/detective story.
