Like Or Not Like ?
Has anyone here ever thought a movie was going to be really great, then saw it and realized it was complete crap ? Or what about a movie that you thought was going to be complete crap but you saw it and loved it ? And what movies do you really love but would be really embarassed if people found out ?
Me ?..... The Happening - a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The only M. Night Shamalyan movie I can stand. Zathura - not as good as the previous Jumanji, but a lot better than I thought it would be. Movie that I would be embarassed if anyone found out ?...... Alice In Wonderland 1985 tv movie |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
Natural Born Killers - was totally jazzed for it, and it turned out to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Definitely in my bottom 10.
Moulin Rouge - had zero desire to see it, and almost bailed out within 5 minutes, but stuck through and loved it. Embarassed to admit - None. I like what I like, I'm not embarassed by it. |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
The Muskateer. I was looking foward to seeing it. But oh my god was this one of the worst movie's I've ever seen in the theater. This is the only movie I've ever wanted to walkout on.
On the other side, while I wasn't expecting Fellowship of the Ring to be crap (I had never read the books), I went in with zero expectations and came out loving the movie. |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
Gigli. Ended up seeing it twice in theaters. I really like it.

Saving Private Ryan - Heard so many good things about it, especially from people who's opinions I trust. What a disappontment. Hell I even stuck through the whole 3 hours thinking that it would eventually get better.
Let the Right One In - Thought it was going to be one of those gimmicky foreign horror films, boy was I wrong. One of the best films of 2008. |

Re: Like Or Not Like ?
Drop Dead Gorgeous - Went to the theatre planning to see something else, but it was sold out, or we were too late. Something like that. Anyway, one friend suggested DDG. The other two of us protested, but eventually gave in because there was nothing else to see anyway. Ended up being one of my favourite mockumentaries of all time.

Re: Like Or Not Like ?
The Happening sucked WAY more than I thought it would, I like most of his other movies.
The DaVinci code sucked, especially with all the hype. I liked the book and was expecting great things, but did not enjoy the movie. |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
Ali. Will Smith playing The Greatest? Sounded like money to me. I hated everything that wasn't a choreographed recreation of one of the boxing matches.
Recently, I was very (pleasantly) surprised by Superbad and Role Models. I didn't expect much from either, and found myself laughing nearly non-stop. |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
I'm surprised I liked Superbad, too. I usually hate teen sex movies and normally can't stand Michael Cera but this was hilarious to me. In fact, I haven't liked most of the entire cast in their other movies.

Re: Like Or Not Like ?
Superbad--Roeper said it was one of the best comedies of the decade. I love Michael Cera. Everyone loved the movie. Me? I thought it was a horribly written misguided mess. Finding a plot was nearly impossible. I didn't laugh once and felt ripped off for spending money on it. I don't get what people see in this movie. Seriously, the only thing I enjoyed were the opening credits.
Fools Rush In--It did ok at the theater I suppose, but I loved this movie! I'm not particularly fond of romantic comedies or Matthew Perry, but he and Hayek were perfect in this one. I've watched it many times. Ok, now I'll go hide in embarrassment. |
Re: Like Or Not Like ?
My sister and I went to the theater to see... well, I can't remember. Something that I wanted to see that was sold out. Instead, I grumbled and groaned as we walked into About a Boy. One of my favorite films now and it got me into Nick Hornby, too.

It's really a modern era version of American Graffiti. If you can follow that classic (and the only truly great movie to have George Lucas's name attached to it), I don't see why Superbad would be confusing. |
