Why is Chevy Chase suddenly getting all this work?

Source?

I feel it's one of the best comedies he's done in the 80's.

But...but...it has appearances by Crispin Glover and William "No Sensei" Zabka!

I think it might even be alot funnier if they teamed Cusack up with Mathew Brodrick or any of the brat pack kids.

That line is probably funnier than the whole movie!

Maybe he's just trying to get work. I doubt that he's been turned down too much. Probably just wasn't trying.

A good interview. The part about Cusack hating the movie is towards the end.

Don't know if he still hates it so much though....

Wow, your right. Nothing worse hearing how a lead actor hates one of my favorite childhood movies he starred in. That's real pity as he should be thankful for those early movies that i'm sure helped him get his foot in the door. The only tiny tidbit he said in that article that brings a ray of light on this movie was this.

And people were writing giant stories about what a great, funny movie it was. It previewed in Rhode Island, and someone write a 3 page newspaper story about how funny it was, and one of the grips tacked it on Johns door. So he started to lighten up.

But everything else. Urgh. Even the director is shocked of how negative he is on that movie. Guess he got one too many "I want my two dollars!!" from people. (shrugs)

The way the interview reads, Cusack hated it once he actually saw an edit of it back in the eighties.

Not going to lie, I lost a lot of respect points for Cusack. If it wasn't for films like Better Off Dead..., One Crazy Summer, Hot Pursuit and Say Anything; the man wouldn't have half the career (or loyal fanbase) he has now.

Just the title of this flick makes me want to see it.

The trailer isn't that great, but the concept is so good. I hope they don't screw it up.

Since when has John Cusack had a loyal fanbase?

Not to derail the topic, but there's a screening of Better Off Dead @ the Aero Theater in Santa Monica this weekend (1/30) with live commentary from Savage Steve Holland, E.G. Daily, Curtis Armstrong and Diane Franklin. I'll be attending.

Also, red band trailer for HTTM looks pretty awesome. Much better than the first trailer.

Saw the commercial for this and it actually piqued my interest. I had to wash up afterwards but will at least be a rental for me.

Goddamnit. If I wasn't going to Northern California this Friday for work, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Argh.

Craig Robinson has stolen the show in almost every thing he's been in, even when the material was shit to begin with (The Goods, Miss March, Post Grad, and Zack and Miri come to mind).

The two weak links in this cast are Cusack and Corddry. I see Cusack as he just "fits" due to the 80s nature and he's the A-list star to get people into the seats, but Corddry is going to do his same retarded, loudmouth shtick he's done in every, single film he's been in. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, What Happens in Vegas, Semi Pro, The Heartbreak Kid and Taking Chances (which I saw at CineVegas under the title Patriotville). I think the only time he hasn't played a loudmouth idiot was in Unaccompanied Minors where he was just an idiot due to the PG rating.

I get a Judd Apatow vibe from this movie. I know he has nothing to do with this, but I hope it's not full of "You or your __looks like__" jokes. I like his movies, but I want this to be totally different.

Robinson really steals the show in this. There are a few scenes where he gets to show his music chops including one hilarious part towards the middle. There are also a couple parts that are vintage Cusack, and you think you're actually watching him back in the '80s. The guy doesn't age.

I'll agree with a guy sitting who was sitting behind me -- the movie is inconsistent but it has a ton of funny parts. Couldn't have put it any better. Not sure if I saw the final version or not -- I hope they edit it to make it tighter -- but there are enough memorable scenes to make it worth watching. And the more I dwell on it, the more I want to see it again. It's going to make a great stoner flick. I hope it does well...MGM really really needs this to be a hit.

He actually has a non-comedic role in W.

The only movie you listed that I saw him in was H&KEFGB, and I thought he was funny in it.

Just watch an episode of Community. Seeking out help from a campus sketch comedy troupe for jokes, it's art brilliantly imitating life.

Re: Hot Tub Time Machine (Pink, 2010): John Cusack, Rob Corddry and Chevy Chase

I'm seeing this tomorrow night in Austin. There should be a talk-back with Steve Pink (the director) as well. I'll let you know my thoughts on the film once I get back from seeing it. At the moment, I love the concept and think it looks good but I'll admit I feel it could go either way. Accepted wasn't too good IMHO. Granted, this film has a much better cast and Craig Robinson looks like his performance could be gold for the film.
