So after all the hype is the movie really worth it or not? This is one of those movies where critic reviews won't really decide it for me; I more or less need to see how the general public responds.
It doesn't sound like Suprmallet liked it which isn't a good sign.

What a boring movie.
It failed my "sleeping" test.
If I fall asleep during a movie, usually from sheer boredom, and I can still comprehend it when I wake up, the movie has utterly failed.

I liked it. I believe it was way dumbed down, but I enjoyed it. The set pieces were fantastic and so was the 3D. But it was very predictable.

It's a movie that either grabs hold of you or doesn't. You're the only one that can decide.

It is. Snip one or two quick shots and this could easily have gotten a pg-13. The bit in Contagion where they remove the top of Gwyneth Paltrow's skull was more jolting than anything here, including the much talked-about C section scene.

Yeah, it's not blood that give it it's rating it's what some of the things do to another that grants it it's rating.

I thought I'd post this here instead of the reviews thread. Ridley has confirmed that he cut 30 minutes from the theatrical cut and it will be included in the director's cut dvd/blu ray.

I just reread this thread from page 1. Pretty funny stuff. One of the early spoiler plots was right on until the crew arrives at the planet. Then it goes in a totally weird direction. Fun read.

I saw it in a pretty crappy theater (I had some time to kill, and it was the only thing playing I was halfway interested in seeing). Anyway, despite the poor projection, I dug the first half of the movie. Once the "monster" stuff started, it really started going downhill. And don't get me started with the whole self-cesarean thing, then the girl running, jumping, etc., with the staples. And I hated the CGI engineer/CGI squidly thing, then the afterthought body-burster...

Well I'm disappointed as I haven't seen it yet, and now I'll probably just wait for it to appear on UVerse.
The point I was making with my earlier comment is you can't judge a film by it's trailer. It seemed as though everyone had already anointed this film as the next great sci-fi classic based on the admittedly great trailer. The Phantom Menace had a great trailer too. No, I'm not comparing this to TPM.
I was hoping it was going to be truly great, even though I knew in my heart it wouldn't be. Sounds like a pretty good film that doesn't live up to the hype.

It was better than the script I read 2 years ago with the space jockey's mind controlling a couple of guys anally violating each other. Was that ever confirmed as a fake or first draft?

I think it's been confirmed in that they've said the original script, written by Spaihts, was too much of a prequel to Alien and that script was very much so. In that second draft of Lindelof's, the one where they end with David being the first human, it also had the same ending as that Spaihts' script

This should be an interesting read.
From badassdigest.com:
From badassdigest.com:
Prometheus was the biggest disappointment of 2012, a movie that should have been amazing rendered instead stupid and dull. All evidence indicates the problems with the film begin on the page, that Damon Lindelof's script - a reworking of a script by Jon Spaihts - is broken on a fundamental level. Things don't make sense, and by that I mean just little character bits and pieces of scene to scene logic. The movie was, completely and totally, boned by the script.
Legend has it that Spaihts' original draft, called Alien: Engineers, was a much better work. More blatantly an Alien prequel, this script has already begun to take on mythological status. Just from interviews people have assumed this was the movie Prometheus should have been.
They were right.
Spaihts' draft is very similar to the finished film in many ways - except the finished film ruins or dumbs down aspects of his script. They're on LV-426 in his draft. The guys who get lost in the pyramid? The script acknowledges the stupidity and makes it a character moment. It includes this great line:
To Milburn and Fifield. The first human beings to freak out, get lost, and sleep in their suits in the ruins of an alien civilization.
The ship isn't called Prometheus. The connection between human and Engineer DNA is explained. The construction of the pyramids on Earth is explained! The scientists don't get stupidly bummed out when they find the Engineers dead - they're excited by what this means for science and understanding! Weyland wants to find the Engineers not for dumb eternal life, but for terraforming technology! And the end is better!
This is the movie Prometheus should have been. Look upon it and despair. Especially if you're Damon Lindelof.

This was news, like, 2 weeks ago. It's practically as dated as the dead engineers at this point, Roc!
I saw the bullet points on what was different, and it really made me wish they hadn't brought Lindelof in at all.
