Of the ones listed that were bigger around 2000, I really think Rachael Leigh Cook got the short end of the stick somewhere, and I like Mena Suvari. I also wouldn't call Jason Biggs a lost A-list talent, but he certainly deserves better, because he CAN be funny.

Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell both were in movies on my top of 2008 but barely anyone saw them. Farrell was great in In Bruges, which is just a great movie all around. The Lucky Ones, with McAdams, is more of a trifle (I'm more than willing to concede the movie's various flaws), but McAdams is pretty brilliant in it.

Linda Fiorentino has a "hard-to-work-with" reputation, so I think that's why her rising star has apparently fallen.

When was Costas Mandylor destined to be a star? All I know him from are the Saw movies.

Michael Nouri should've been huge.

Michael Biehn - great in a ton of great movies, but I assume people not on a DVD forum don't know his name.

He really should have been cast in the new Terminator movie.

pinata242 10-31-08 03:03 PM

I am still in love with Michael Biehn.

Michael Biehn kicked ass in Grindhouse.

Eric Bana

none of his movies do big money like the Hulk and Lucky You and he is not a box office draw.

I don't think Troy was a hit either.

He did have Munich, which was a critical and commercial hit, but that was sold more on the Spielberg factor and somewhat on the fact that it was Daniel Craig's first big film after winning the part of Bond.

I can't find the quotes, and I'm kind of surprised they aren't on wiki, but back in the 70s, quite a few Hollywood people felt that JMV would be the greatest thing ever to come out of Hollywood, and as we all know, he has been anything but.

Then:

<img src=http://www.werjan.com/Jan%20Michael%20Vincent.jpg>

Most recent I could find, 1996...lots of drugs/drinking and a couple of car accidents later:

I thought he was dead
looks like he had fairly steady work though even if it wasn't great work

McAdams also took a year off, so I doubt we've seen the last of her.

She can't be that desperate. She's a lead actress in a highly-rated tv series.

Oh she's desperate. That show pretty much saved her. Girl can't really act, the only interest in her is seeing those ta-tas. She's on a TV show where the average viewer is 63 years old, while the Maxim and Rolling Stone covers are a mere memory as Megan Fox and Katherine Heigl have blown right past her.

She seems like a genuinely sweet girl, but I have no doubt she'll be getting a real estate license by her 40th birthday, like 95% of other actresses.

Add Kathleen Robertson to that list. I always thought she was the hottest of the 90210 girls, but she went nowhere post-BH90210.

I think it was during promos for that '91 flick Mobsters. I slightly remember commercials with the line "and introducing Costas Mandylor".

Speaking of Up and Comers, there's this article posted only yesterday about current up and comers, including names like Malin Ackerman, Kat Dennings, and such.

Maybe some future misses among that group as well.

I'll admit I am surprised Thora Birch never became more popular.

I'm surprised you said Judy Greer. I find her completely annoying in everything. Plus, her "look" in movies is usually very unflattering.

Giles 05-13-09 09:05 AM

^ I disagree, I like Judy, she's my kind of gal.

Chris Evans of Fantastic Four, Not Another Teen Movie and Sunshine

Ash Ketchum 05-13-09 09:21 AM

Re: What actor are you surpised isn't a bigger star?

I can't say I'm surprised, but Lance Henriksen should have been a bigger actor. Maybe not a star, since he's always been tagged as a character actor, but he should have had a higher profile, on a par with Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall or at least Samuel L. Jackson. He's 69 now, so I don't think it's gonna happen for him. But he was so great in JOHNNY HANDSOME 20 years ago that he should have had better and more interesting movies than he's had since then. (Sure, he's great in STONE COLD, but it's a silly-ass movie. And sure, he's great in APPALOOSA, but it was too small a part.)

Giles 05-13-09 09:27 AM

Re: What actor are you surpised isn't a bigger star?

^ and in that respect, Will Patton. He always really embellishes his roles and chews the scenery, he picks odd movies and I find some his acting decisions might be a tad quirky (Code Name: The Cleaner, for instance) but movies like 'Remember the Titans' he outacted Denzel IMO.
