She's currently the producer and star of The Client List on Lifetime, which is entering it's 2nd season. (enjoyable guilty pleasure)
Sarah Michelle Gellar was in Buffy on The WB/UPN and did a few moderately successful movies like The Grudge, Scooby Doo, Cruel Intentions. She was also the star and producer of Ringer on The CW last season.
Ryan Phillippe was on Crash, which won best picture, Cruel Intentions, The Lincoln Lawyer and was a series regular on Damages final season last year. He's done a bunch of smaller Indie films too.
Freddie Prinze was on the final season of 24 as a regular, the Scooby Doo movies and was recurring on Boston Legal on ABC.
They have all managed to keep working consistently and have had pretty decent success. JLH is probably the biggest star right now of the group.

I hope I am wrong but I have a feeling 5 years from now people will be saying why didn't Allison Brie ever become an A-List type star when she has a supporting role on some hbo/showtime series . Call it the curse of the super talented tv hottie from a cult show more popular with interweb people then the general public ala Kristen Bell.

Re: Who were the up-and-coming actors that never became huge stars?
This thread isnt about actors who have consistent acting work such as the whole casts of American Pie and I know What u did last summer. Hewitt, Hanigan, and Sean William Scott are not huge stars. They are successful but not huge stars. Up-and-coming actors who turn into huge stars around the world are someone like Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway.
Actors like Mathew McConaughy or Halle Berry are huge stars even though their films may consistently fail.
Current up-and-coming actors who are being judged now are someone like:
Karl Urban, Tom Hardy, Chris Pine, Zac Efron, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Amanda Seyfried, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Nicholas Hoult, Shai Leboef, Michael Fassbender, Melissa McCarthy.
These actors are close and are getting those big roles, but they are not huge stars yet - they are still undergoing the Hollywood test "here's your big chance" phase. Kristen Stewart is like Mark Hammill - popular in their famous franchises but not popular in anything else.

Although the fact that you misspelled the name of that guy in the TRANSFORMERS movies does not bode well for his future stardom. (That and the fact that he lost his recent Broadway pissing match with Alec Baldwin.)

True enough. Which is why I didn't even bother trying in my post and just called him "that guy from TRANSFORMERS."
I'm not sure anybody knows how to pronounce his name either. Everytime I say "Shee-ya Leh-BOOF," my daughter corrects me with "Shy-ah Le-BUFF."

Tom Everett Scott. He was "Shades" in That Thing You Do and looked to be on his way to stardom until he did An American Werewolf in Paris then he did that lame comedy movie about the fraternity and urban legend about getting points if someone dies, etc.

Bruce Lee. His career at Hollywood ended up being one film long.

Brandon Lee too. He had some great presence in a couple of Van Damme-level action flicks, Showdown in Little Toyko and Rapid Fire. Then he made The Crow, which I think would've launched him into something big. He wasn't a one-note action star. He was fun to watch and showed a lot of depth in a role that could've been generic.
But of course the Lee's are a different circumstance because they died young.

'Eh. The Crow is a very violent, hard R revenge flick. Were there some curious people that checked it out because of the buzz? Sure, but nothing like a pg-13 superhero movie leading people to check out one of Ledger's last performances.
It was a solid revenge flick that was very stylish with a red hot soundtrack at the time. I don't think Lee's death played that big of an impact on box office numbers.
