A prequel called "Toon Platoon" never got out of the pre-development stage.

Living Dead 03-26-04 08:39 PM

A sequel to such a great film over 15 years later would almost surely suck. Especially with Mel Blanc dead.

I think it is safe to say the DVD for Roger Rabbit 2 is quite a ways away...

;)

This is the DVD Talk forum, after all...

I read an article a while ago that said the budget for Roger Rabbit 2 was eventually used for Pearl Harbor.

dcprules 03-27-04 01:24 PM

I don't think this one will ever come. First off, considering the first one had both Warner and Disney characters in it, it would be a trademark nightmare to obtain all of those rights (and would cost a fortune). Second, Roger Rabbit was such a landmark film for the time topping it would be almost impossible.

j123vt_99 03-29-04 07:50 AM

using the Star Wars trilogy as an example?

A sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Did Robert Zemekis ever think about doing a sequel or is it too late to make a sequel since it came out in 1988?

The answer hasn't really changed.

No thanks.

Disney was going to do a sequel in the early 90's, that would have supposedly been a prequel where the toons fight in World War II, but the cost was deemed too high. The script and project were eventually shelved, and Roger Rabbit has only shown up in some animated shorts here and there.

Here's a really good article on the "almost" sequel ideas and how it all fell apart.

This project was just delayed, then recast using Tom Hanks and Matt Damon. The title was supposed to be "Saving Private Rabbit."

I don't think it would work now.

Supermallet 10-08-04 05:17 PM

There's a sequel to the book that's not too bad.

corycouger 10-09-04 02:36 PM

Thanks for the article.

They could have done the movie with CGI but it would not be the same.

While I wouldn't mind a sequel, the problem is that it's almost fifteen years too late for a sequel. Most children (and pre-teens for that matter) do not know or are not familiar with the Roger Rabbit character to go see a sequel to the original '80s film. I wouldn't mind seeing one (if done correctly), but you know how that goes...

Buena Vista could pump millions into the sequel and it's advertising, but it would do nothing. The original film isn't as "fresh" as it was over a decade ago.

That also means no more Honey, I Shrunk The Kids sequels either. :(

Audiobooks make that long commute go by faster.

I disagree. The film is just as fresh as ever. However, it's probably true that kids today won't recognize Roger Rabbit the way they recognize the more popular characters.

What was left? Honey, We Shrunk Everyone BUT Ourselves?

Supermallet 10-09-04 10:27 PM

It's disgusting to think that the Roger Rabbit prequel was dropped in favor of Pearl Harbor and Treasure Planet. On the other hand, all the toons were going to be CGI? Maybe it was better they didn't make it.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel?

MTV: Are there any of your old projects that you've been thinking about revisiting in some way? Obviously, you did three Back to the Futures, is there a way to revisit that in some form, like motion capture, performance capture?

Robert Zemeckis: Well, I'll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability, the digital tools, and performance capture, is I'm starting to think about Roger Rabbit.

MTV: Please do it. Is it based on a old idea or a new idea?

Robert Zemeckis: Ummm, new idea. New idea.

MTV: Will it look similar to the methods you used last time, or will you use totally new methods?

Robert Zemeckis: Yes and no. Yes and no.

I remember Jim Hill Media had a piece on a Roger Rabbit 2 about Broadway musicals that sounded great. Either way, I'm game.

I'd be down for that. As long as Roger look more cartoon than CG

Re: Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel?

i would love to see a RR sequel.. there was a rumor floating around years ago that a script treatment had been passed to Disney.. supposedly it takes place 10 years after the original.. Roger is working as the mascot for the new Los Angeles Dodgers.. and then Sputnik goes up and causes all sorts of problems.. or something to that effect..
