Or they could have called it UniSol which was the shorthand for the term Universal Soldier in the first film. Unfortunately it sounds like a disinfectant spray or some sort of astringent.

re: Universal Soldier: Regeneration - 2009 (Van Damme, Lundgren)

Just saw this movie (final title Universal Soldier Regeneration)

Not a bad B grade actioner.

Van Damme and Lundgren along with Andre Arloski were good in their roles (not exactly an acting stretch for either of them)

The fight scenes were pretty good

WOrth a rental

I recently bought Universal Soldier in blu-ray, $8 or so in Amazon.

Did you see it in theaters or DVD/Blu?

I haven't gone through the rest of the thread, but I'm sure I'm not the first to mention that I can't believe Van Damme passed up a role in The Expendables for this

re: Universal Soldier: Regeneration - 2009 (Van Damme, Lundgren)

Anybody else see it? Not a bad watch. The scene where JCVD and his stunt double mow down 100 guys was good. Lundgren seemed off though, like he didn't want to be there. His and JCVD's fight scene could have been a lot better, but at least the stunt guys got a good work out.

My only real gripe is, it ignores Uni Sol: The Return, which I did like.

I'm gonna rent this tomorrow. It's been getting great reviews.

As for Lundgren, he shot all his scenes in 6 days. You'd seem off too.

Maybe he wanted to focus on this.

Listening to the audio commentary, it seems Lundgren originally rejected this cos he thought it'd be more of the same. I love the end result and really liked when he remembered what he had to say.

If John Hyams is back, I'll gladly watch a sixth entry in this series.

That was awesome! When did he do that?

BTW anyone see Command Performance? It's Dolph Lundgren kicking ass as a pot smoking rock n' roll drummer.

Just watched the BD. Yeah. I didn't think Lundgren's performance was bad either. I thought it was actually a pretty decent cameo. It's been a long time since I've seen the first two installments, but what exactly was he trying to remember ??

Overall I liked this more than I thought....especially after the dreadful Universal Soldier 2. It's probably the best on-screen fighting I've seen from mma fighters (Arlovski and Pyle). I thought Arlovski in particular really pulled off the villain bad-ass role.

I have to agree with stingermck. The scene where Van Damme lets loose on a bunch of baddies was great.

I thought that too but why bring these guys back now after already making a sequel with either of them?

re: Universal Soldier: Regeneration - 2009 (Van Damme, Lundgren)

Jean-Claude Van Damme returning.
Spoiler:
I wonder if they'll use the cloning angle from the last movie as a means of acknowledging that Luc Devereaux from Regeneration is most likely not the same Luc Devereaux from Universal Soldier (whose ending was retconned in addition to all of The Return).

Dolph Lundgren returning.
John Hyams returning.
It being in 3D. Don't get me wrong. I like 3D a lot. I just see no point for it in this type of feature and fear a The Final Destination scenario.

re: Universal Soldier: Regeneration - 2009 (Van Damme, Lundgren)

so cuz of BF...I bought this guy for $9.99...and I like it. The action is pretty good. A lot better than what I'd assume most Direct to DVD films are. The stunts are pretty bold but not outlandish. They really pack a punch. Dolph's role was small but solid. Van Damme was good too. Kind of wish he had more to say or do though. Of course...the 3rd act is where that happens. I really really like how Van Damme vs. Arlovski kept moving the fight along. Not so stationary. Same could be said for the Dolph vs. VD fight too.

seems like the newer film coming is called...Universal Soldier: A New Dimension. Either way..get more Luc doing doing stuff, put a lot more Dolph
My main issue is just JCVD's Luc is....kind of boring. Well..honestly..he was kind of boring in the original so..maybe it's just the way it is but...even w/ the generic set up I was entertained and happy w/ it.

Last thing...I know it was fight that was lost to begin with but...that fight between Arlovski and Mike Pyle(aka Capt. Burke) was pretty damn good too. Kind of took me off guard as well...either way...it's a solid action flick.

Didn't even know the 2009 movie had been made. When "The Return" was out at the theater I worked at, I listed it as "Universal Soldier: The Sequel Nobody Asked For". It played a week.

Shouldn't we be getting a trailer soon considering they had to have finished filming by September, no? Cuz Ex2 was filmed afterwards and we got a teaser already.

Are you sure that pic of JCVD is for Universal Soldier or playing Jason in an upcoming Friday the 13th movie?

Whoa. When the director said it was gonna be a mostly a sequel in name only, I guess he wasn't kidding. Van Damme and Lundgren don't even look like they're playing the same characters as before.

Given all three have the same weapon of choice, maybe this is a movie about Los Macheteros?
