Re: Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer (v2.0)
Interesting, so Joss owns the TV series rights and Kuzuis own film rights. Presumably Fox owns distribution and controls licensing (as a Buffy geek, I know they were the ones that always had to sign off on merchandise).
I wonder if it'd be worthwhile to Fox to simply buy out the franchise rights from the Kuzuis. I'm sure Fox would much rather have a Whedon/Gellar/Boreanaz film franchise, than one without. Realistically, a Buffy/Angel film with the TV cast/crew could probably do about $50 million U.S. if it gets the fanbase out 1-2 times, and then any general public or Twilight lovers who might be curious, would just pile on top. If Joss could produce it for $40 million or so, it could be a decent sized hit when piling on the foreign gross and DVD/merchandise sales. |
Re: Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer (v2.0)
Joss could probably do the film on the cheap. No need for $40 million (Serenity's budget), it could probably be easily done for $25 - 30.
Love Head's comments; but Fox doing the smart thing and buying the rights? Remember, their television and theatrical departments are ran by different people. If it was up to the television people? I bet they would try their hardest. Rothman is a schmuck who's fast tracked the theatrical department to shit. If someone can show him proof that this is a profitable franchise, then it may happen, but it's a huge fucking gamble. I'd honestly love for Fox to buy back the rights, show the Kuzuis and Roy Lee (one of the biggest hacks in Hollywood) the door, and do their own picture with Whedon involved. However, I don't see that realistically happening. |
Re: Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer (v2.0)
All I wanna say is IF they make a Buffy movie without THE cast or Joss. They'd have to pay me the budget of the movie to even consider watching it. It's total bullshit, period.

So much so that it doesn't even belong in this thread. The title says it all, and the talk about this supposed movie isn't Joss Whedon's Buffy.

Apparently? Paul Rubens is awesome. That Sutherland guy? Not so much).
I have to say, I loved the original movie. It was the only Buffy for a long time and it really cracked me up. It was why I tuned into the first episode of the TV show. The TV show completely surpassed it, but the movie still has a place in my heart. |
