Princess Mononoke is my choice. I didn't like Spirited Away.

How can you watch a visually stunning movie like TOTORO on YouTube? How can you watch any movie on YouTube? You really don't care much about these films, do you?

So you'll only watch a Japanese movie in English and you'll only watch TOTORO on YouTube. There's no hope for you. We have nothing more to talk about.

Nausicaa. I've seen Spirited Away maybe 3 or 4 times and it really does nothing for me.

Howl's is my 2nd favorite.

Re: Best Hayao Miyazaki Film

Spirited Away is easily my favorite of his, though Kiki's and Totoro are also quite good. It was maybe the 6th Miyazaki film I had seen (following Castle of Cagliostro, Princess Mononoke, Nusicaa, Laputa, and Totoro) and had the most "magic" of any of them. It was also the one I felt most involved with.

I respect Princess Mononoke, I love the way the story was told fully displaying both viewpoints, but I didn't find it all that involving. Similarly, I liked some aspects to Lupin: Castle of Cagliostro but did not care for the movie overall.

Howl's Moving Castle was entertaining up until the ending which I thought was weak at best, which is unfortunate as I generally leave Miyazaki movies feeling satisfied, not this time.

I do care for these films, but I don't like to blind buy much and my local video store doesn't have this movie. I have the link for the copy i'm watching below.

For Youtube it looks pretty damn good, even in fullscreen it's still watchable.

Ghibli films are great no matter where you watch them, on the computer, on the big screen, on VCD, anywhere...and the Ghibli DVDs have awesome English dubs...

Re: Best Hayao Miyazaki Film

Although it is not a Miyazaki film, I'm watching The Cat Returns right now, and I'm liking it. Interesting story and just a fun movie to watch. So far, highly recommended. Once I finish the film, i'll come back and update this post with my final opinions.

I've also started to watch a bootleg of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. And although i've only watched the first ten minutes, I will say that this is the most stunning visual Miyazaki film yet. Even on a bootleg, it is eye candy. I'm very excited for the US English release now.

Buncha Spirited Away fanboys here! Anyways, I voted for Laputa, disappointed that Porco Rosso didn't get any votes. It's horribly underrated and is probably my second favorite.

I CAN'T BELIEVE GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES WASN'T MENTIONED UNTIL POST#30. It's the most emotional movies of them all.

Re: Best Hayao Miyazaki Film

My vote will always be for Castle in the Sky.

I don't like SPIRITED AWAY one bit. I mean, it's OK, but compared to KIKI, MONONOKE, TOTORRO, NAUSICAA, PORCO ROSSO (a truly great film, and criminally underrated), or CAGLIOSTRO, it's not much of anything.

I'm not big on HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE either, but I like it a bit better.

Re: Best Hayao Miyazaki Film

The great thing about Ghibli films is that they are all so good that any of them can be considered "the best one"...I don't think there are any other directors like this as with the Ghibli filmmakers. Usually a director has a couple really good films, but any or all of the Ghibli films can be easily accepted as masterpieces....

My least favorite Miyazaki film is Spirited Away as well. I always fall asleep watching it because it feels so long. It's still a very good film though.
