Margot and the Wedding and The Squid and the Whale were two of the nicest surprises of the past 5 years. PLus the soundtrack to Margot and the Wedding was one of the best albums I've heard in the past few years as well.

Loved The Squid & The Whale, hated Margot at the Wedding.
I still have faith in him, but I'm not expecting as much as I was when I went into 'Margot'.

Like Kicking and Screaming and Squid and the Whale, and have been waiting forever to see Stiller do more dramatic work. I'm enticed.

I'm down for anything Baumbach.
Which movie is the title a play on?
Margot at the Wedding = Pauline at the Beach
The Squid and the Whale = The Mother and the Whore
Conrad & Butler Take a Vacation = Celine & Julie Go Boating

Kicking and Screaming easily remains in my all-time top 10 favorite films. i don't think anything Baumbach has done even come close to letting me down (except for his participation in The Life Aquatic... which was an okay film). i even loved the real low-budget High Ball and Mr. Jealousy.
needless to say, i'm thrilled on this. he's getting bigger and bigger actors to play his films.

I was able to catch a preview screening on Monday. It hits wide tomorrow, and let me say fans of Baumbach will not be let down, as for those who love Stiller's usual silly fare... not so much, I predict. Check out my review here:

just watched this lovely gem. Some of this rang very true for me personally, so it just made it even better, much like Squid and the Whale. I never saw Margot.

Does this movie give you the same feeling as the last two movies this guy has directed? I've despised his other work, but this trailer looks a lot more interesting than his previous stuff.

I watched it last night.
Great performances, I liked this film.
I don't know how many people will be willing to enjoy the trip to get where Baumbach was going with this though.

I have a general loathing for "quirky indie dramas", but I heard some good rumblings about this movie so I gave it a watch last night. Fine performances. Pretty ehh film, but it has its moments. I generally didn't buy a second of what I was watching, up to the climactic party scene which worked beautifully. Easily Stiller's strongest performance to date, miles above anything he's done in countless shithead comedies that have grossed the GNP of Ecuador. Too bad nothing overly worthwhile is surrounding it. 6 out of 10.

Yeah, this is more of the same. His earlier stuff, like Mr. Jealousy, however, is much lighter.

Good performances, yes. Greta Gerwig's nice perky nipples, yes.
However, not enough of either to keep my attention. Ben Stiller is too big of a movie star for these kinda roles. I think he did a good job but I was hoping for some more heavy hitting emotion from the other players in the film. I think Baumbach is hit or miss for me. I really liked The Squid and the Whale but this was pretty meh and Kicking & Screaming was only okay for me.

Re: Greenberg (Baumbach, 2010): Ben Stiller & Greta Gerwig dramedy
I found the un-melodramatic, very real and thus understated nature of the film to be its strong point.
99.X% of films have plenty of heightened reality, exaggerated emotions, actions, and reactions. It's a breath of fresh air to have a film like this, a character study, where the actors are inhabiting real people, in a real world, and the director has something really cool to say with and about it.
I really liked this film. More so after I watched it again.

I thought this movie was great. Stiller and Gerwig were fantastic. It's definitely not for everyone (and anyone who likes plot driven movies is going to go crazy) but I really enjoyed it. After disliking Margot at the Wedding, it was a nice return to form for Baumbach IMO (I adore The Squid & The Whale).

I found the movie good but not great. Stiller was very good but his character was very annoying.
Was not familiar with Gerwig before this but loved her in this.
