Favorite movie based on graphic novel?
well, with "Watchmen" just coming out and a spurt of graphic novel based movies to come, i thought we should reflect on what has come thus far in the world of strictly or loosley based movies using a graphic novel as source material. and i searched and didn't find any just graphic novel favorites thread. i swear!
i tried to do the poll based on highest rated movies at IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, so forgive me if i left out your favorite. and i am going to give this public poll thing a try.
i love "V For Vendetta","Wanted", "A History of Violence", "Ghost World" is very good as well, but "Sin City" has got to be my favorite thus far. It just blew me away when I first saw it, almost as a complete "blind buy" as i had no idea of anything about it prior to hype and stuff, saw it and was wowed! easily, most viewed since.

From the ones listed on the poll, I would have to go with Sin City....
With Road to Perdition & A History of Violence close behind....

My favorites are Japanese live-action movies based on manga, like LADY SNOWBLOOD (1972) and the Lone Wolf and Cub movies from 1972-73, e.g. SWORD OF VENGEANCE and BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX, the two movies used to compile the English dub, SHOGUN ASSASSIN (1980).
And let's not forget animated adaptations like AKIRA and CRYING FREEMAN (both 1988).
But, of the ones listed, I voted for 300, because I thought that one worked best as a movie.

Of your list, Ghost World. But American Splendor really should be on there, it's an adaptation of a series of books, true, but probably the most interesting single comics-movie adaptation yet.As for History of Violence, it's a fantastic movie but it bears very little resemblance to the (IMHO mediocre) graphic novel.

Some good ones...
Female Convict Scorpion series (based on a manga, the second is my favorite)
Dellamorte Dellamore (a.k.a. Cemetery Man) (based on a comic strip called Dylan Dog)
The Crow
Sin City
Oldboy (based on manga)
Ichi the Killer (based on manga)

Going to wait until after I get a chance to see Watchmen to cast my vote, but I can tell you it certainly won't be Wanted, that movie was pure shit.

A lot of good ones here...I had to pick Ghost World though. Sad to say, but I could identify just a little too much with Seymore. And I think it was superior to the graphic novel and I appreciated how Daniel Clowes worked with the director to bring it all together.
If I was to pick an "other" title, Persepolis would top the list every time. It was everything a graphic novel to movie should be...it copied the art style of the original graphic novel very well and stuck to the story. Just a marvelous work.
I keep hoping one day we will see a Maus movie done in the same way.

Tough choice for me, almost clicked on at least 4 of the choices. Probably should have voted for The Rocketeer, but ended up on Watchmen, as I think that movie might grow on me and end up being re-watched the most.

I hate the term Graphic Novel. Its just a term for douche bags who wouldn't be caught dead reading a 'comic book'
With that said, I vote for Watchmen even though it was in singles format first.

glad to see the disparity. makes me want to see a slew of these again, with "Ghost World" topping the list.

Watchmen.
I really enjoy most of those films on there, but Watchmen was a really good film that I think is only going to get better upon subsequent viewings.

I hate the term too. For me it's like the term was created for comic book geeks so they can say they read "novels".
