erc BoxOffice reports that Kevin Smith has signed on to direct the comedy Couple of Dicks, which Warner Bros. Pictures is targeting for a January 29, 2010 release.

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan ("30 Rock") will star in the comedy as two veteran LAPD detectives who attempt to track down a stolen, mint-condition, 1952 baseball card."

Wow. He learned nothing from including the word "Porno" in the title of his last flick (marketing nightmare).

That said, this could be fun. But I'd be surprised if the title doesn't change.

i think this might be his first true studio movie right? Also im gonna assume he didn't write the script either. Maybe he's making this so that if its popular, he can get Red State off the ground.

Wow. This should be great. The Die Hard / Bruce Willis story was one of the strongest on the 'Threevening' disc. From the sounds of last weeks Smodcast it's a studio picture since Mosier isn't involved.

You know most Kevin Smith movies sound like a good idea until you finally see them they are usually just okay. I'm still trying to get the lackluster taste of "Zack and Miri" out of my mouth.

As good as Tracy Morgan may be, I always wanted to see Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson in a comedy together. Still, I like Kevin, so I'll check this out. Sad that Mosier isn't onboard though.

Sorry to be 'that guy', but doesn't it feel a little off with Kevin Smith doing a studio picture with someone else's script? Hasn't he said stuff before about not wanting to do other peoples' scripts? I mean, I'm not saying it won't be good, it's just surprising I guess.

I'm all for it. I love his flicks, but this may be just what he needs to 'break out.' Plus he said after Z&M he had all kinds of offers rolling in. I can't blame a guy for picking one that Bruce Willis is attached to and putting the personal stuff on the back-burner for a year.

I played poker with Kevin Smith 2 weeks ago. He hinted to this that night. Once he said there is a big announcement coming up in 2 weeks and said it had nothing to do with Red State. He also then stated something about finally starting to Direct other people's scripts. He said he sees it as a new challenge.

I think this is going to be interesting. When you write your own script, it's a bit easier to have a vision as a director. I think this will be a bit more challenging for him.

I'm unsure about this. Even if he didn't write the script, he has to be doing a rewrite or something, right? Because without his input at the script level I'm not sure what the point is. I love his movies, but I love them for the dialogue and characters -- NOT for his directing talents. We'll see.

I've never been an enormous fan of Smith's movies, though he has made some fairly funny stuff. But as long as he continues to get away from Jay and Silent Bob I'm all for it.

I'm a Kevin Smith fan and I don't think he is a good director. He has a gift for dialogue and allows funny people to be funny but his eye/editing I would consider pedestrian. I think any episode of Scrubs shows more directorial skill than anything he has released. Why someone would hire him to direct someone else's script escapes me. Unless he's rewriting the script to get it into his voice this seems like a bad idea.

But by Smith's own admission, he's always been lazy and a challenge is the last thing he would want. Maybe Willis twisted his arm or something.
