If he admits to being lazy why do people still have interest in his movies? I want to see writer/directors who are putting their best foot forward even if it doen't work.

Jason Mewes is probably broke and the script has a part for a skeezy druggie type.

i think he is a little scarred from Zack & Miri. when you put so much time and effort into having a part in an entire movie (writing, directing, editing, producing) I think you get let down when it fails in the box office. he was very bitter towards the marketing of zack & miri. i think this allows him to just go in, direct, and go home for the day. after Z&M he said he was going to explore directing other people's scripts. i think if this works out, you may see him doing much more of this in the future.

and then his eventual Clerks 3 release in 9 years.

This. We'll see how this works. That is part of the reason that I like his other films so much. If he doesnt write this one, it sort of isn't a Kevin smith movie for me.

Didnt he say on the threvening disc that he always wanted to work with willis, and then he got to on Die hard, but then willis called him up one night or something. Will have to go rewatch it.

I'm curious about this.

I'm a big KS fan. I may be a bigger Bruce Willis fan, I've watched so much crap from him...

re: Cop Out (Dir. Kevin Smith) Starring Bruce Willis And Tracey Morgan!!!

Here's my recollection of the Threevning Bruce Willis story.

Kevin went in to read for the DH4 part/cameo, but he didn't like the script so he rewrote most of his lines. The casting guy was kind of like WTF? but he got the call a while later and when he showed up he found they had used his rewrite. Then he tells a long story about how Bruce isn't happy with the way the script plays and eventually Kevin does another rewrite which Bruce likes but the studio has to approve any changes and when they drag their ass Bruce threatens to walk. Then a couple of months later Bruce calls him up out of the blue on the 4th of July on DH4's opening weekend and says they should do something together. Kevin is floored by the offer but after he hangs up he realizes he doesn't have anything that Willis is good for.

My overall impression was that Kevin definitely did not enjoy the big budget studio filming style. He talked about how soul crushing the production was for Len Wiseman and then went into great detail about how a shoot that should have taken a couple of hours took a few days, and frankly the main cause seemed to be Willis IMO.

Regarding Kevin not directing other peoples works. Early in his career he did say that he would only direct stuff he wrote, but he also recently talked about it on SModcast, probably because of this deal. They were talking in general about how they have grown as film makers and how early in his career Kevin was very self-deprecating about his directorial skills. But he thinks he has improved and realized that a lot of that stuff was just his insecurities talking. He specifically mentioned his statement about not directing other peoples material and said that was one of those shortsighted things he said when he was young that he can't hold himself too it today. Besides, I know he has at least directed the pilot for Reaper, which he did not write.

I am glad to see Kevin get a gig that is just directing. I enjoy his film and even liked Zack and Miri....and not just because I went to the special Pittsburgh screening with Kevin. I just can't stand how fucking depressed Kevin was on the last few Smodcasts. I thought Z&M was funny but I think he was a little out of touch when he thought the movie was going to be some mega smash hit. While the movie screened well that doesn't always mean much. It sounds like Kevin has not done much other than smoke weed, eat and watch YouTube vids since the movie bombed. He needs to get back on the horse and on a horse that might actually make some money.

I liked Zack and Miri, the ending was a wee bit weak and predictable but it was good film overall. Hope this is a good thing for Smith, directing wise.

Regarding the SModcasts recently, I think it's been more the marijuana haze than depression, not counting the first Smodcast back from the break. I usually don't check the Smith related message boards, but after listening to 45 minutes on Wayne Gretzky's dad I had to see how others felt. 90% thought it was great and one of the few posters who mentioned the pot haze got a reply from Kevin telling him to mind his one business.

Kevin said recently that he makes a conscious effort not to get high the day before his speaking gigs because people are paying good money to see him and he wants to put on a good show. Obviously the SModcasts are free and he doesn't owe us listeners anything, but it would be nice if gave us that courtesy too. It would probably be good for him personally too. Not that it's any of my business.

While it cost more than his other films (save Jersey Girl), it grossed $31 million, earning more than any of them.

Im actually surprised it did as well as it did. didn't it make like 3 mil opening day? if the word of mouth was bad, it prob wouldn't have done over 15 or so.

Also what i noticed too is that this movie is being done at Warner which Kevin does have some history with with the superman reborns incident (look it up on youtube)

The story on Aint It Cool News refers to it as "A Couple of Cops", so the film might have already been retitled.

I feel the same way. I gave the first smodcast after the break a shot, but I haven't been back for more. I thought I could listen to the man talk for hours on end about whatever was on his mind, but I was mistaken.

On topic, I skipped Porno, but I'm definitely interested in this flick!

As another poster above mentioned, WB felt the same way and changed the title to the resoundingly boring A Couple of Cops. I thought the length of the title was really what might make people think it was terribly offensive. I feel like, for whatever reason, they could have gotten away with Two Dicks.

"A Couple of Cops" just might be the worst title since, well, "Live Free Or Die Hard".

A Couple of Cops?

Come on. They have to come up with something better than that.

The title change is weak. They had so many other options, like:

A Family of Dicks
Dickland
Dick and a Half
Dicks and Robbersons

I think one of the cops should have a cat and rename the title:

Two Dicks and a Pussy

re: Cop Out (Dir. Kevin Smith) Starring Bruce Willis And Tracey Morgan!!!

Some facts from Smith himself (from a 105 minute podcast at /film):

"If you haven’t yet listened to the Special Watchmen Review Edition of /Filmcast, you should do so now. Kevin Smith joined the crew and to geek out in depth about the “unfilmable” comic book adaptation. Smith’s next film, A Couple of Dicks, will be his first feature film based on a screenplay that he also didn’t write. Our conversation with Smith was “Dicks”-less, but Lee Stranahan recently sat down with Smith and was able to get him to talk about the upcoming action cop comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan. Here are some of the highlights:

* The script is “definitely an R-Rated Film” with “salty language in it, but not a Hard R”
* Warner Bros was considering making it as a PG-13 movie (which might explain the brief “A Couple of Cops” title change) but Willis, Morgan, Smith and WB head Jeff Robinov decided it would be better as an R-Rated comedy
* “It meant a lot of us had to give up a bunch of our salary to make this movie, that’s how passionate we are about the flick.”
* “It just feels like a grown up movie for me”
* “You could go after the Gran Torino audience with this movie, and that is a totally different audience than I’ve ever played to.”
* “The budget of the movie is NOT huge.”
* “For anyone who says ‘He just sold out, he’s just going for the buck — I’m making less to make this movie than I did on Dogma, which is a movie I made 10 years ago and didn’t make a lot of money.”
* “That’s the way I think the business should be run. Everyone should take the risk and then if it pans out, we all get rich.”
* Smith says Robinov hired him because this is a movie about “two dudes talking to each other” and his visual chops are now “up to snuff”
* “There are some action sequences in it. On the grand scale of things, not action sequences on the scale of Zack Snyder composes. But there are action sequences which are a little more than I’ve composed.”"

Has Bruce Willis learned nothing from "Last Boy Scout"?
