"I suppose I could riffle list some things that I care as little about as our last week together. Let me see... low-carb diets, Michael Moore, the Republic of National Conventions, kabala and all kabala related products. High def TV's, the bush order, wireless hotspots, the OC, the UN, recycling, getting Punk'd, the Latin Grammies, the real Grammies, Jeff that Wiggle who sleeps too darn much. The Yankies, payroll, all the red states, all the blue states, every hybrid car, every talk show host, everything on the planet, everything in the the solar system, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything that exists! Past, present and future and all related dimensions.
Oh. And Hugh Jackman."

I'd take Tomei over Cruz any day in any language.

That's who I was pulling for. Besides the hotness, I liked her performance.*

This is good because I'm pretty sure Cruz will make out with Salma Hayek later tonight to celebrate.

Loved Jackman's opening number.

Didn't care for the overly long introduction of the supporting actresses.

I seriously want Frank Drebin to come in and fuck things up. This is only 20 minutes in. Jesus Christ.

Jackman had a great opening number, but what idiot thought it was a good idea to take 5 minutes to introduce the acting nominees? And never show any clips of their performances?

And BTW, Cruz did NOT deserve to win. She was annoying as hell in that movie. Screaming and overacting does not equal Oscar material.

wonder how long it'll be till someone translates the end of her speech

Re: The 81st Academy Awards 2008 Awards Show Discussion.

From the start of the intro to the award to the end of that speech - 9 minutes. The short films get less time.

I look forward to the segment where they bring out five sound editors who then drone on for 10 minutes.

9 minutes long and not one damn clip. If that's the way each of the major categories is going to be presented I think I'm done.

Damn, this is going to turn out to be the most anticlimactic Oscars ever.

And the winner is ... Heath Ledger

And the winner is ... Kate Winslet

And the winner is ... Mickey Rourke

And the winner is ... Danny Boyle

And the winner is ... Slumdog Millionaire.

Bleh.

No clips of the acting performances is terrible. This is going to be an awful show.

Easy when the "lesser" awards happen, they will rudely just start cranking the music over their acceptance speech to cut them off... then at the end will be treated to 60sec of Winslet crying and another 3 minutes of oh my gosh I have so many people to thank.

Seriously - when have the awards ever fit into 3 hours?
