NOTE: If daily grosses stop for a movie, it means that the respective studio is no longer tracking it on a daily basis. The exceptions are New Line, Miramax/Dimension and Sony Pictures Classics. They don't do official daily box office, and estimates are made for their movies based on partial data in order to fill out the top 12. Because of this, movies from these studios are more apt to disappear from the daily chart.

I saw "The International" this morning and it was sold out (!) I always catch movies early on Saturday morning to beat any crowd. And I've never seen a theater full that time of day. Including "The Dark Knight". There were tons of older people. Maybe it'll thin out in the afternoon and evening.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Friday the 13th - Chi-Chi-Chi-Cha-Cha-Cha-Ching

This morning I noticed quite a few families going to see Friday the 13th. Maybe the His Name Was Jason documentary was right, maybe Jason is more popular than Santa Claus.

Does this mean we'll finally get that remake of Happy Birthday to Me that we've all been waiting for?

Nice to know we can expect more sequels to F13th. I'm a whore for Jason, plus I'd rather get more F13th sequels than Saw sequels any day. Those are pretty big numbers considering they expected it to make $15-20 mil for the entire weekend.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Friday the 13th - Chi-Chi-Chi-Cha-Cha-Cha-Ching

Not surprised about Jason. Glad to see it's still a profitable franchise. The line and business it got at the one theater I went to yesterday was riduclous.

I don't think the hate for it is really legitimate. It's good. It's like back to it's roots. I loved Freddy vs Jason, but when's the last time we had a legitimate Voorhees flick? 1993 with Goes to Hell? Jason X was garbage.

Were you expecting Shakespeare going in to a Friday the 13th movie? I'm a huge fan of the original series and thought this was a great re-telling. It kept elements of the original films all while introducing the character to a new audience.

Same here. I hope we get yearly sequels again.

For all intents and purposes, I'd call FvJ more legit than Jason Goes to Hell. The whole body-jumping thing was pretty dumb, and as far as I'm concerned you don't get your Jason Voorhees kicks that way.

Are you joking? Who's been waiting for that?
It would most likely end up like the April Fool's Day remake, very bad....

Good. I was disappointed with F13 remake but it had potential for a great sequel, in which we will 99% to get.

Fingers crossed. And with any luck, "April Fool's Day", "Motel Hell", "Hell Night", "Chopping Mall", "Sleepaway Camp". Come on Hollywood, don't let us down.

^ at least they were smart enough to cast Taylor Cole in April Fool's Day. She can't act but she's cute enough for me to sit through a horrible movie if for some chance she accidentally shows side-boob.

Re: Weekend Box Office: Friday the 13th - Chi-Chi-Chi-Cha-Cha-Cha-Ching

This will probably have the 3rd highest February opening ever, behind Passion of the Christ ($83 million) and Hannibal ($58 million). I expect it to drop today, which will put it short of Hannibal's take. I'm gonna guess about $51 million.

Freddy vs Jason opened to $36+ million. Pretty amazing that this remake will clobber that amount.

I completely agree. When I was in the theater probably 20 minutes into the movie I realized I was watching the first REAL Jason movie in like 20 years (Manhattan came out in 88/89, didn't it?)

I'd say the last time I saw a real Jason movie was the awesome five minutes of carnage before that doctor ate Jason's heart for no reason whatsoever.

Anyway, I havn't seen this yet but I hope it earns more than FvJ. Kinda sad seeing that one on top.
