Re: Guess That Movie By Screenshot: Nine Months Later ...

Shit. I was looking at my DVDs, trying to figure what to use, but didn't have time last night, so I figured I'd do it this morning. But... forgot to pull a DVD.

Sorry all.

Wildcard.

HINT: The opening of the movie was delayed for 6 months due to an arrest in Hawaii by one of the stars, which got bad press.

Excellent. Yes.

It was Shintaro Katsu's last role, and a young Takashi Miike was the AD.

Re: Guess That Movie By Screenshot: Nine Months Later ...

Spoiler:
Who is this actress? Her character's name is given twice as Valerie Whitehouse, in dialog and printed on a poster, yet she has no on-screen credit or IMDB entry under that name; a Google search for "valerie whitehouse"+century doesn't reveal anything. Halfway through the movie, she has a big introduction scene and the above closeup, then disappears. I'm guessing she was an extra to whom a producer made promises, maybe???

Excellent guess - the two movies share six (!) cast members in common.
Spoiler:
Charles Lane, Eddy Chandler, Harry Semels, James Burke, Nick Copeland, and Pat Flaherty. Probably not so unusual after all, as both pictures were produced by Columbia, with lots of bit players under contract
The most familiar face among them, however, might be difficult to recognize from this movie's credits alone.
Spoiler:
Charles Lane (1905-2007), perhaps the ultimate "I know his face but not his name" character actor, is billed in this early role under his given name, Charles Levison.

He also appeared in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Spoiler:
Two performers from the Oberammergau Passion Play (whose actors famously grow their hair for their once-a-decade performance) stop by to pay their respects to egomaniacal Broadway producer Oscar Jaffe (John Barrymore)

Not Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

The lead actor (visible in this shot) has a relative who is a well-known contemporary Hollywood producer.
Spoiler:
Barrymore as Jaffe in disguise (obscuring his "great profile" with a fake nose and goatee), as he slips out of town to evade creditors, brazenly takes a light from the sheriff just before boarding the title train. His granddaughter Drew is better known as an actress, but she produced Charlie's Angels and its sequel, and has been producer or executive producer on eight other projects
