This movie should have gotten more viewers. It is a fun adventure film and feels like a new Indiana Jones movie. It's much more enjoyable than the last IJ movie without question. Kinda like the Mission Impossible movies have taken over the James Bond films.

Go see it. It is a fun flick.

My rating: ***1/2 out of *****

I had to wait on a tire repair at Discount Tire today and luckily the Discount Tire in my area is near a movie theater. I dropped my car off and watched a discount day matinee of Tomb Raider for $5.50. That's the most I would have spent on watching it in the theater. It's worth a matinee watch. I enjoyed it, especially Vikander as Lara Croft. I would give it a 3.5/5. I would watch another one if they make one. This has made $212 million wordwide on a $94 million budget. Maybe we'll get a sequel. I liked this much better than the Angelina Jolie movies.

While i'd love to see a sequel, I'm guessing the box office performance just isn't nearly enough.

The foreign market isn’t terrible. Almost $215mil worldwide so far.

Right, that's what lwhy had posted. It just doesn't seem like enough to invest in a sequel to me.

If they can get the Chinese to co-invest in a sequel, it will probably get made. Most of these big blockbusters are co-financed for the Chinese market.

That’s what I’m thinking.

Uh oh...

Terrible idea IMHO. Why reboot it again? I thought she was great and I get the feeling that’s the predominant feeling.

I would take movieweb’s articles with a grain of salt. They’re rarely accurate.

Oh yes you’re right I totally forgot to preface it with that exact warning. More of a what if scenario rather than actual news.

Re: Tomb Raider -- Warner Bros. reboot (2018) -- S: Vikander

Not bad, not bad at all for this non-gamer (but know enough that they pulled quite a bit from the TR games). I actually liked Vikander in the role and that they didn't go super fantasy like the previous two film adaptations. Shame it didn't do better as they did sequel-bait and equally a shame the studio (supposedly) is blaming Vikander's lack of star power for its lackluster box office. Really enjoyed the hell out of this action-adventurer flick.

She may not be a big star, but she was one of the best parts of the movie. Overall, I enjoyed the film. It stayed pretty true to the recent games.

Yeah, lack of star power wasn't this movies problem. She was really solid in the role.

They really need to figure out how to sell plot in movie trailers and ads again, trying to sell based on title and visuals alone obviously isn't working.

In spite of a fine performance by Ms. Vikander, this is a pretty bad movie.
Unfortunately, good acting will only go so far.

What lousy writing and directing.
Very disappointing...

I hope we get at least two more Tomb Raider movies with Vikander, but it seems doubtful...

I finally watched this last night and it was bland as hell. I was surprised, because I am a fan of the director's previous film called The Wave and was hoping for a cool film and got nothing of the sort. Not even Goggins or West could save this one.

He'd never do it, but I feel like Edgar Wright would be the perfect director for at least one of these.

Even though it was a bit derivative, I enjoyed this film mostly due to Alicia Vikander's performance.

As others have mentioned, it's faithful to the 2013 Reboot-Video Game, which I very much enjoyed.

I also thought the mythos of Himiko was pretty cool.

Re: Tomb Raider -- Warner Bros. reboot (2018) -- S: Vikander

I watched this last night and I was surprised at how much I disliked it. I went in hoping for some fun Indiana Jones-lite adventures, I don’t think my expectations were set that high but was still disappointed when it was over.

I agree with others that say that Vikander was the brightest spot in the movie. I enjoyed watching her and felt she did a nice job with what she had to work with, which wasn’t much. The movie took WAY too long to get going, after the kickboxing match, little-rich-girl-pretending-to-be-poor schtick, bicycle races and games, running from teen Asian purse snatchers, etc. I was starting to check out. By the time crazy cave-man dad showed back up I was over the whole thing.

There were some neat ideas, and I liked the ship sequence and queen’s tomb near the end but it was too little too late for me at that point. Even the set-up for a potential sequel fell flat for me.

Watched Roar Uthaug's other films prior to watching this and found them all quite impressive. Escape is really, really well shot and Cold Prey is atmospheric. Hard to believe he probably had 20x the budget on Tomb Raider and the result was so .. uninteresting. Started falling asleep a couple times.

Would've frankly been unwatchable without Vikander. Agree with the comment about her grunts giving her a vulnerability you just never get in action movies; she felt like a real person.

Nothing else really works. Script is uninvolving. Goggins just sort of pops up in the picture, he's too cartoony/generic baddie. Plot and action was just by the numbers.

Yup. This is playing on HBO. Felt more like Tomb Raider than the other two movies though.

Well this one is based on the reboot of the game while the previous 2 movies were based on the original games. At either rate, this one was a missed opportunity. I hope they don’t make any more at this point.
