3-D is taking over!!
I didn't know where else to possible post this but:
3-D technology is quickly becoming very popular with almost every director considering enhancing their films with the 3-D treatment. This new attraction has now moved to trailers and even TV shows. So why stop there?. M&C is reporting that Hong Kong filmmakers are preparing to release the world's first pornographic movie in 3-D. Shooting on the Chinese-language film "3D Sex And Zen," budgeted at $4 million, is scheduled for April with producers promising some of the most realistic close-up sex scenes ever. "Just imagine that you'll be watching it as if you were sitting beside the bed," said Stephen Shiu. "There will be many close-ups. It will look as if the actresses are only a few centimeters from the audience." A Hong Kong-based special effects company that has worked on major blockbusters including "The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D" will help produce the 3-D images for the sex movie. |
Re: 3-D is taking over!!
This isn't even close to being the first porno 3-D movie; there have been tons of them.
|
Re: 3-D is taking over!!
yet 'Sex and Zen' takes the cake for inventive use of props getting in places where the sun don't shine - say a flute. Can you imagine a scene similiar to 'In the Realm of the Senses' - "egg scene" ;) flying AT your face

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
It's one way to get people back in the movie theaters instead of watching it online or bootleg dvd.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
I guess with those chinese porn movies we gonna see 3-D blocks hiding the goods.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
I had a lot of fun watching My Bloody Valentine so i'll keep an open mind.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
There do seem to be quite a few 3-D films on the horizon: Tintin, Frankenweenie, Alice in Wonderland, the Piranha remake, Avatar, Coraline, Up, Final Destination 4, etc.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
I wonder if this surge in 3-D will last longer than the 1950's craze.

The 3-D boom of 1953-54 lasted less than 18 months, and most of the fifty-one 3-D features made in the United States at the time were produced between February and September 1953; when CinemaScope hit. It came and went that quickly. There have already been close to twenty 3-D features (not counting IMAX documentaries, etc) that have been released since 2003; with at least 30 more in the pipeline. In 2009 alone: MY BLOODY VALENTINE, CORALINE, JONAS BROTHERS EXPERIENCE, THE DARK COUNTRY, SCAR, ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS, FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP, UP, MONSTERS VS ALIENS, TOY STORY, G-FORCE, AVATAR, with plenty more in production for next year. Even, shudder, STEP UP 3-D! Paramount is even offering a special deal to theaters who upgrade to Digital 3-D: no digital print fees. They want the number of theaters up to 2000 quickly so they can realize more money from upcoming movies. The trend has been in the combo 2-D/3-D releases that every single movie so far has sold at least 3 times as many tickets in 3-D as 2-D in markets where both were shown; with MY BLOODY VALENTINE the figure has been reported as 6 to 1 in favor of 3-D. Over 70% of the first weekend's take came from the 3-D version, which was only playing in 1/3 of the venues. |

Box Office magazine seems to think Piranha 3 will be out in July - from what I've read online and here in DVDTalk, it seems like it hasn't even been filmed yet. as for upgrading, the recent news that AMC is interested in doing a massive implementation of IMAX-Digital 3D screens seems a tad hypocritical. IMAX is far more expensive than DLP-3D and AMC had originally announced there were plans to upgrade theatres with both standard DLP and 3D units - that never happened. |
Re: 3-D is taking over!!
Everything I've read (including an interview with the director) states that PIRANHA's production was delayed a bit and that it will be shot this spring with an early 2010 release in mind.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
My Bloody Valemtine was real good fun. It makes average movie that most would forget in a couple of days more relevant. As for the porn thats sounds great till you feel like some freaking guy just came on your face. Not too cool then.

RottenTomatoes said "Consensus: With its vivid stop-motion animation combined with Neil Gaiman's imaginative story, Coraline is a film that's both visually stunning and wondrously entertaining." |

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
I like "regular" 3D movies (not the CGI films). I had a lot of fun at My Bloody Valentine, even though the movie sucked. I'd be down for more.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
Personally, I hate all this new 3-D stuff and wish it would just go away. It just makes everything look fake. Even the "live action" stuff.

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
The only 3-D I've ever seen in a theater is Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. Have they improved since then?

Re: 3-D is taking over!!
Coraline looked absolutely gorgeous in 3-D. It increased my immersion in the film's world immensely.

EDIT x2: Nightmare Before Christmas? Great movie. Don't count it as a 3-D movie. ;) |
