The Zero Theorem (2014) (D: Gilliam; S: Waltz, Damon, Swinton)

This will begin shooting May 1st. Slash Film had this to say:
The star of Zero Theorem is to be Billy Bob Thornton, apparently playing a tormented, reclusive genius trying to find final answers to the many enigmas of existence.
No IMDB page as of yet.

Re: Zero Theorem (Gilliam, TBA): Billy Bob Thornton

From Dreams' interview with Gilliam:
There was a project called Zero Theorem.
That was a thing that I was going to be doing this year. We were moving ahead on it with Dick Zanuck, who's been producing the Tim Burton movies of late.

What was the appeal of the project?
Just a very good script. It appeals because it is so simple to do, quite small and contained, it's a very smart script. I thought I could do it quite quickly and cheaply, and that would be a nice one, rather than getting caught in more expensive, more complicated or hard-to-finance things. But the year just got swallowed up by Parnassus and publicity, and preparation for Don Quixote. I just didn't think it would be viable and I pulled the plug earlier this year.

No problem! I'm just bummed this is dead. Like all Gilliam projects, it was bound to be interesting and unique.

Re: Zero Theorem (Gilliam, TBA): Billy Bob Thornton

By the way, this movie was resurrected and has already been shot. Christoph Waltz took over for Billy Bob. It is currently in Post-production for a late 2013 release.

A computer hacker's goal to discover the reason for human existence continually finds his work interrupted thanks to the Management; this time, they send a teenager and lusty love interest to distract him.
Director: Terry Gilliam
Writer: Pat Rushin
Starring: Christoph Waltz, Matt Damon, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, Mélanie Thierry

Re: The Zero Theorem (2013) (D: Gilliam; S: Waltz, Damon, Swilton)

When I made Brazil in 1984, I was trying to paint a picture of the world I thought we were living in then. The Zero Theorem is a glimpse of the world I think we are living in now. Pat Rushin’s script intrigued me with the many existential ideas he had incorporated into his funny, philosophic, and touching tale. For example: What gives meaning to our lives, brings us happiness? Can we ever be alone in our increasingly connected and constricted world? Is that world under control or simply chaotic? We’ve tried to make a film that is honest, funny, beautiful, and surprising; a simple film about a complex modern man waiting for a call to give meaning to his life; about inescapable relationships and the longing for love, full of quirky characters and sparkling performances; raising questions without offering obvious answers. Hopefully, it’s unlike any film you have seen recently; no zombies, no caped crusaders or alien spacecraft. Actually, I might have lied about that last item. Having not worked with a budget this small for several decades, I was forced to work fast and instinctively, pressured only by time and money. We relied on the freedom to spin on a dime, to make outrageous creative leaps. The results surprised even me. I’m proud to have been part of The Zero Theorem.

Looks a bit low budget for what Gilliam was trying to do, but I think it looks great.

Man that looks great. Whoever cut that trailer did a bang up job. Whoever cut the first trailer needs to be fired.

i guess i missed the part where Matt Damon dropped out of the production? his character looked like a funny Twin Peaks' Leiland Palmer decked out in zebra print.

Looking at the trailer and images makes me think Gilliam would be a good director for a BioShock movie.

This is already on Blu-ray via Amazon UK. I don't know if it's region free.

Poor Terry Gilliam, he's been on Facebook a lot pleading with fans in different countries to send an email to the distributor to play the film. Based on the feedback, it doesn't sound like it's screened in too many places.
