Midnight Run is in my 10 top comedies of all-time, and nevers seems to gets its due when they do those best comedy lists. It is a great comedy because it actually has a good story in it too compared to comedies today that dont even care about the story. I still love Charles Grodin repeatingly asking DeNiro, "Why are you so unpopular with the Chicago Police Department?" Deniro responded, "I got two words for you, Shut the F**K up!"

I love Awakenings but I wouldn't consider it under-rated it got nominated for 3 Oscars (1 for De Niro)....

I think DeNiro probably got the best filmography of any actor ever. If the only movie one were to ever watch were ONLY ones in which DeNro appeared you would still see a great selection of great movies.
I like at least 90% of his films. (Some of the ones I dont like are Showtime and the Good Shepperd.)
Among the more underrated films in his resume are The Fan, 1900, and Mad Dog and Glory

Midnight Run is my favorite comedy of all time. No matter how many times I watch it I still burst out laughing at many different scenes. It's full of great one-liners.
I also recommend The Score, and City By The Sea, two other DeNiro movies that often get overlooked.
And dare I say Casino? My favorite movie of all time. I can't stand how it's often dismissed as "Goodfellas 2". Nothing of the sort. I find it to be the better film in fact.

Glad to see all of the Midnight Run love - I rank it just above Planes, Trains and Automobiles as my favorite "buddy" comedy.
But speaking of underrated, I've seen a lot of mentions of Bronx Tale and DeNiro's directing, but I thought his performance as the kids' pop was very good. He reeled it in for the part, and I always find that role very convincing and moving.
