Michael Shannon? Lame.
Now I have to see The Reader. I knew there was going to be a Kate Winslet 'shocker'.
Happy for Melissa Leo and Richard Jenkins!

Has anyone found a full nominee list? The two official oscar sites seem to be dropping the ball about uploading them.

WTF is The Reader? Shame TDK gets shut out on top spots. Ive always joked that Best Picture should be the one that makes the most money
Oh well, say hello to record low ratings.

I'd rather the academy nominate the best movies rather than those that will get them the best ratings.
That said, The Dark Knight is better than The Reader.

I think it is funny how The Dark Knight probably made more in one theater on opening day than all the nominated movies in their entire runs so far totalled together and multiplied by three.

Also someone tell me how Prom Night was overlooked. seriously.
I wasn't really paying attention to the screen while they were doing the noms and Richard Jenkins flashed across and I thought for two seconds 'was he really that good in Step Brothers"?

I know it's not exactly one of the major awards, but apparently Bruce Springsteen wasn't nominated for Best Song. Which is sad.

Shocked at no best song nom for Springsteen or best picture nom for the Wrestler. Both sadden me

Sucks about The Dark Knight. Oh well. Another Oscar telecast where no one watches.

I am shocked at no nomination for Nolan. The Dark Knight was a directing feat.

ok so Kate Winslet got nominated for The Reader for best actress. right? i keep seeing conflicting reports saying it was revolutionary road. if it is the reader, that's surprising b/c i thought they were pushing for Supporting Actress for that one.

Instead they nominate Frost/Nixon which while well-acted was not THAT great of a movie. Frank Langella deserved his nod(and Michael Sheen deserved consideration), but leave it at that. And while I haven't seen The Reader, the consensus seems to be that it's merely a good film with great performances.
Looking at the Best Picture nominees, it appears that once again Hollywood let politics dictate the selections. You've got Frost/Nixon which is centered around one of that town's most reviled individuals of all-time, Richard Nixon. You've got Milk which was obviously given a boost by the anti-Prop 8 sentiment in that community. And then there's The Reader which deals with the Holocaust. That never hurts when it comes to award shows.
