Yeah, great film. I hope you saw The Big Red One - The Reconstuction version of the film because it's the best cut.

Surprised you liked it so much. It was one of my favorite films when I was young (I was born in the early 70s) but my one attempt to rewatch it a few years ago ended after 20 minutes or so. It has not aged well at all in my experience.

Yeah, I agree. I know it has a sort of cult following, but after Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers all other War epics seem to pale! I tried watching it again a while ago, and compared to them, I found it pretty unexciting to say the least. As for Lee Marvin, again I always liked him as an actor, but really he looked far too old for the part of the Sergeant.

I saw the "original" cut in my late teens. I remember enjoying it, but thinking it was a rather slow moving film. Fast forwarrd to when the Reconstruction came out, and watching that reaffirmed my affection for the film, as well as a new appreciation for it. It is by no means a Saving Private Ryan, but it is, i think, very moving at aprts. Lee Marvin was fantastic in it.

Re: I just watched:The Big Red One!

I have seen alot of war-films from 30's to 00's and yes Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers is (( all to real )).

But I like to vist as many verisons of any man's vision of war Fuller was very-good at and to say that this film has not aged well ok that is your point-of-view.

I liked it for what it was and because I was invested in those men in that time of hell on earth enough said.

Big Red One is infinitely better than Private Ryan.

I ageed with you as The Big Red One didn't need a ton of Special Effects to get arcoss its war message.
