Needless to say, I will be purchasing the BD the first chance I get.
It was released last week on BD. I recieved it the other day from dddhouse.

Looks decent, nothing like Yip/Yen's films though.

Re: Ip Man - Biopic about Bruce Lee's teacher

A little late to the party, but I finally watched this in HD on Netflix over the weekend.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. The fight choreography is astounding. I'd seen the infamous 10-on-1 fight, but I had no idea of what others magnificent battles the film contained. I only knew Yen from Blade II (that was him, right?), but I wish I had been more familiar with him sooner. The guy is amazingly good. The final fight with him and Muira had so much power and emotion, it was palatable.

That's another thing - this isn't just a film you fast forward through to the fight scenes; the film itself is really, really good. I was blown away by just how much I liked it. I've already added Ip Man 2 to my instant queue, and I'm definitely buying this on Blu-ray so I can watch it again.

SPL is quite good, with no real lags I found. Good plot.

Flash Point is a little silly at times and is poorly paced but holy fuck the last fight is AMAZING.

I dunno..that bit w/ Sammo got..too wild for my tastes. Just that 3 or 4 secs. Was too much.

Yeah, you're right, that part was a little OTT.

Yeah, the one little bit at the end of the Sammo Hung fight in SPL went against the style and tone of the fights of the rest of the flick. That annoyance aside, it's a great flick and (mostly) a solid final fight. But even if you were to exclude that bit, the Wu Jing fight that preceeds it is far better.

Re: Ip Man - Biopic about Bruce Lee's teacher

My favourite is still the Colin Chou Donnie Yen fight at the end of Flash Point.

I never rewatch films anymore, except for Flash Point which I watched three times in a row

Thing is, Yen speaks perfect English; he should be doing fight choreography for Hollywood films. He'd never use the damned shaky camera.

I remember reading a while back Yen was picked by Guilllermo Del Toro to choeograph the fight scenes on Blade 2. Apparently after he did a couple, both Wesley Snipes and Del Toro felt it was too fast for an American audience, so they took those duties away from him. All he ended up with was that bit part and very fast sword action scene. I agree though, he should be used more in Hollywood.

Re: Ip Man - Biopic about Bruce Lee's teacher

just depends on the choreography. No offense but for the most post...I don't like seeing martial arts just being thrown into a movie for no reason here in the US. Some movies it's OK and that's cool..but sometimes..it's out of nowhere.

I would like to see more gritty and lack of flash in our fight scenes here. We're Americans. We're not surrounded by martial arts like HK. Where's it's fucking everywhere there..and actually makes sense at times for the characters to know (harsh as fuck gun laws for one).
