" Green Light for New Judge Dredd Movie Source: 2000ADOnline.com December 20, 2008 Rebellion and 2000 AD have announced that a new Judge Dredd movie is in development. Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such films as Danny Boyle's Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009. Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, "We can't give away too many details at this point, but we're looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen."" I'll say that as a kid I really liked the first Judge Dredd movie. Havn't seen it since I was probably 13 years old though so I dont know if it would still hold up. Still Its a cool premise so I say why not. |
No Rob Schneider = No Sale!
:D |
The first was horrible. I can't imagine them making another.
I remember one part where someone's limb gets pulled off and it looks like water pouring out. = J |
Dunno, never got around to seeing the first one, but I have been picking up more of the trades lately (including a couple written by Garth Ennis). There's so much potential with the whole 2000AD universe - but there's some things they just have to keep in - it's not as though the dialog needs to be brilliant, but just reflective of the society (including all those crazy abbreviations and slang) - and there needs to be a LOT of the old ultraviolence.
Aside from that, the easiest thing would be to just take one of the established - fan/favorite storylines and do it (unless that's what they did with the first one). Was Judge Death in the first one or just Judge Rico? Admittedly if they want to reboot it as a franchise, I'd probably go with a more human enemy for the first one and save Death (and his buddies) for the sequel - as with batman begins/Dark Knight. |

I love the first Judge Dredd movie. I thought Stallone was a great casting choice. I thought that Armand Assante, Diane Lane, and Max Von Sydow were even better casting choices!
Rob Schneider? Meh. Too much comic relief. A little goes a long way... But I really liked the story and the acting - and the direction was pretty good, too. For me a reboot will have a lot to live up to. I'm cautiously optimistic. |
At last a 'reboot' that deserves to be made. The first was off enough that I wouldn't even consider this a reboot. More like a do-over.
Stallone had the jaw, but that's about it. |
Judge Death please
|
The effects were quite and achievement. I don't have much to say beyond that.
|
The original was a COLLOSSAL piece of shit.
I mean, ginormously collossal. And it pissed all over the original comic. JUDGE DREDD needs to be redone, and redone RIGHT. Don't believe me? I'll break you with my bare hands!!   |
Stallone himself stated that Dredd was the movie he was most dissapointed with and that they should have followed the comics.
|
Come on - you've got to love the original Judge Dredd even if just for Armand Assante's great scenery chewing performance! The guy is BRILLIANT!
|
Judge Dredd is a great time waster, but I'd gladly see a remake that's closer to the comics.

Judge Dredd? 99th viewing!
|
Noooooo! Bring back the italian stallion!
|
They go for a trilogy with Apocalypse War, Cursed Earth, and Judge Death.
|
This was one of the most epic trailers that I remember for Judge Dredd:

I loved the comics, so another take on the character would be great. Surely they can't do worse then the Stallone crap.
|
I think after this gets made, they're going to reboot another Stallone classic, "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot".

Re: New JUDGE DREDD movie! The Rebooting continues.
Karl Urban has been confirmed for the leading role in Judge Dredd by producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of the new film. Urban had been rumoured for the role already, but in a Movie-Con Q&A this evening the pair confirmed that he has been cast for the film, shooting in South Africa soon.
“The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago," said Macdonald. "Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real." "There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously. We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd. We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision." http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=28653 |

I'm looking forward to this. Urban is a fine actor. And apparently he's contractually obligated not to show his face. As much as I enjoyed the Stallone movie, it pisses me off that they had Dredd take off his helmet.

Re: New JUDGE DREDD movie! The Rebooting continues.
I was at this Movie-con and we all cheered at the mention of no helmet removal.
He also mentioned that John Wagner is involved which is great news to me. In regards to District 9 he also said they were shooting with that size of budget aswell as the same team. I love the art design of the first film. All the bulkiness of the uniforms and guns. The buildings look like the ones from the comics but thats where it all ends. And Diane Lane's ass looks amazing in the outfit aswell. |
