NEW YORK (AP) Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous "Star Trek" TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry's side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." A fixture in the "Star Trek" franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original "Star Trek," Lwaxana Troi in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming "Star Trek" film directed by J.J. Abrams

Now that makes me want to go see the new movie for her voice as the ship one last time.

Wow. I had just read a few days ago that she was going to do the computer voice. This is horrible.

Wow. There have been several veterans of the original series who passed away this year, including Alexander Courage (composer) and one of the series' directors (Robert Butler, maybe?). Conventions are going to get a little less interesting at this rate, not that I've been to one in ages.

That's too bad. She was never a great actress in her parts, but she did seem to be a fixture in the history of the show.

According to Herb Solow and Robert Justman's Inside Star Trek: The Real Story, they only even had her on the series at all because Roddenberry insisted on it.

Damn. I always thought her role as Troi's mom was a perfect fit.

RIP Majel.

She will be missed. Very sad news, indeed.

I disagree with the person who said she was not a good actress. She was perfect for the roles she portrayed. Her best, of course, was as Lwaxana Troi. She played that part perfectly. If you don't agree, just watch the episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Forsaken. I think you'll change your opinion of her acting abilities.

Rest in Peace, Majel.

Death is such a primitive concept. I prefer to think of her as battling evil, in another dimension.

I always thought she was really good in everything I saw her in. She was also very nice at the Conventions which isn't the case with all Trek Actors.

She was the very first Trek actor I ever met in person.

I'm happy we'll get her voice one last time.

Very sad news.

I've always been most impressed by her smallest role, Captain Pike's Number One in "The Cage". Cool and calculating, but still vulnerable.

RIP, to the original Number One.
