So, do you all still think Zack and Miri is still a bomb? It can easily make 6 or 7 million bucks this week, which isn't a huge drop off from last weeks 10 mil and change.

RichC2 11-08-08 06:24 PM

I don't think many people thought it bombed. Coupled with the fact it opened on Halloween, destroying any chance of a decent Friday, it did fairly decent for a movie called Zack and Miri make a Porno.

Zack and Miri didn't do too bad at all. Also it had a pretty decent Mon.-Thurs. last week. AND it had to compete with two new big R-rated comedies opening and it still held its own.
It Should be able to do $35-40 million I would say. I saw it with my girl last night and we both enjoyed it. Not great but a pretty decent comedy.
Also this week there was some love for "Role" but not a lot of love for "Soul". I thought both looked watchable but prob. I'll wait till DVD for them.
Wonder if HSM3 will get to $100 million. Same for Eagle Eye.

Zack and Miri is one of the rare movies not to have a drop from Friday #1 to Friday #2.

High School Musical increased from its Friday #2 to its Friday #3 yesterday.

I'm glad Role Models did well, I enjoyed it.

Madagascar's opening is probably right on schedule. I actually rank the first pretty high. It doesn't hit that 'meaningful' note like most of Pixar's movies. But it's certainly enjoyable - and much better (for me and for kids in general) than that Shrek crap. I would say there are more 'belly laughs' in Madagascar than any of Pixar's movies.

I'll get around to seeing it with the kid within a few weeks. I also plan to still see Zack and Miri (probably tomorrow, Sunday).

Madagascar and Ice Age are two of the non-Disney/Pixar movies that I really enjoyed. I had high hopes for Ice Age 2 that were dashed to the ground so hopefully Madagascar 2 is a bit better. If anything, Schwimmer as Melman always gets a laugh from me.

$63.5m for Mad 2, $19.25m for Role Models / Weekend

Damn, great weekend for Madagascar 2.

Thanks, Troy -

I worked on both the Shrek and Madagascar franchises, so I appreciate your support. :)

seriously, $20 mil for an "R" comedy will little star power. Nice Job.

I'm glad Changeling has managed to stay in the Top 5 two weeks in a row, considering it's subject matter is disturbing to some people.

Indeed. "Ice Age 2" was terrible. And let's keep David Schwimmer anywhere away from BEHIND the camera. "Run Fatboy Run" was shit. And he practically ruined "Little Britain USA".

I must admit that for the past few months I've had a hard time convincing myself to go the theaters. I just haven't seen anything released that I need to see on the big screen.

rexinnih 11-10-08 07:55 AM

NIce job Madagascar. Also good to see an R rated comedy making decent money.

Ballast didn't play in LA?

Movies I really liked from the past two months: Ballast, Let the Right One In, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Synecdoche, New York, RocknRolla, Rachel Getting Married, Burn After Reading, Choke, Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Halloween clearly had something to do with that.

I don't think I've heard of Ballast.

Actually, Quantum of Solace coming out this week may get me to hit the theaters again.
