Saying Zack & Miri is a bomb is a bit of an overstatement. It's too bad, though, I did think this would break through the $30m wall Smith seems to hit at the box office.

I agree, seems like a terrible time to release a movie like that.

Yeah, I'd hardly call "Zack and Miri" a bomb. That's when you don't even debut in the top 10. I was surprised some analysts expected it to do better than this actually.

Also surprised to see "The Haunting of Molly Hartley" doing as well as it is. And I know all the pre-teen and teen girls are going to see is because of that kid from "Gossip Girl" is in it. But this was hands down the worst trailer for a movie I had ever seen. Laughably bad and dull.

Exactly. If people went to the movies last night I'm sure they would have rather seen something like Saw V. I would expect Zack and Miri to have a much bigger day today because the audience for this movie probably wants to go to the movies today to nurse their hangovers.

even considering the day, i would have thought Zack and Miri would be prime for a time like this. there hasn't been a true R-rated comedy since Tropic Thunder this summer and thought Z&M would be a perfect time to come out now. too bad.

Bomb? Please. Kevin Smith movies rarely do truly fantastic in theaters, they have all their life on DVD, even if this was his most heavily promoted in a while.

While I've seen trailers for Zack and Miri at almost every R-rated film I've seen in theaters in the past two months, all of those films were box office failures (example: Hell Ride, Choke and Sex Drive) that nobody saw to begin with.

The fan base, like me, was busy last night getting drunk and partying. Since it's also my birthday weekend, I won't be seeing the film until later on in the week (a first since I always see Smith's films on opening day).

What surprises me more is that it'll do less than both the opening weekends of his last two films -- a film with Ben Affleck as the lead when everybody hated him and a sequel to a cult, independent film that most people don't know about.

I'm also shocked that HSM3 is tanking. Especially since I was expecting a $200 million opening weekend.

Zack and Miri IS a bomb, it was expected 18-20 million this weekend by basically everyone that estimated its box office. It will be lucky to make even that much.

The adds were horrible. They didn't know how to market this at all.

I love Kevin Smith and really wanted to see this be a successful picture for him but it is underperforming no two ways about it.

Didn't Clerks 2 bomb? Why make another.

Also, why doesn't Kevin Smith movies go right to video? Have any really been enough of a hit to cover the production & marketing? If they are such a big hit on DVD, just go right there and skip the theaters.

It was more a joke about Kevin Smith going back to the Jay and Bob films as he did the last time one of his non-J&B films bombed.

Clerks 2 cost $5 to make and made $25 million. The theatrical release covers production cost and more. The DVD sales are gravy.

Terrible weekend for movies.

Halloween or not Z&M would have bombed anyways. Stupid uptight America afraid of a little movie with porno in the title. SMH.

His movies don't cost a lot to make and pretty much make back their money and more in theaters.

I don't think the marketing was that bad. They showed exactly what's worked for the Apatow led fare and uptight America did buy into Knocked Up.

Yes they did to some extent, but Knocked Up didn't have Porno in the title.

I don't know what it is with uptight America and being afraid of sex, I just don't get it. We embrace violence, yet when it comes to sex, America gets all shy and embarrassed like its something dirty or shameful WTF? There ain't a problem over in Europe, no wonder we have such a violence riddled country, maybe if people had more sex, and did less violence it would be a better place

I asked a few women where I work about Z&M, and almost every one of them (ages ranging from young to older) said something to the variation of "I'm not seeing that crap" or "is it a porno movie?" "Sounds disgusting"
