Oh, and it's "you're" an idiot, not "your" an idiot. If I've learned anything about the internet, it's to at least do a spell and grammar check before insulting someone else's intelligence.

Its attack (singular) attacks is plural. I only made one personal attack, not several. But hey you really got me there grammar police....or is it their.....

You sir are a Weeney.
Oh man personal attack I am going to cry to the mods now. Where is this dudes warning?

If you practice, and keep trying, you may yet find yourself intelligent enough to figure out and use the spoiler buttons... when discussing a film that opened 3 days ago.
Wrong, do your research 12.12.08.

This little snippet sums you up rather completely.
If I gave a crap what you say......naaaa I don't.

goes down in history as a classic

Oh man your idea of a classic is severely skewed.

Say whatever you want about my thoughts on the movie, you guys just can't handle an honest, truthful opinion about the movie, you don't know what do do with yourselves when somebody steps foreword and disagrees with what the majority says/likes around here its typical on this site.

What a fucking joke! Absolute and total inconsistency in the movie, the police at the VERY LEAST would have a warrant to search the gangs premises, found insane amounts of illegal guns, and of course all evidence of rape and assault. Did they even take the girl to the doctor? How about filing a report? Those fuckers would be in custody instantly, its not like they were hiding, they were AT HOME! LOL. After those 2 things, the police would have them in custody immediately.
Just for the record it was mentioned that Sue did go to the hospital and it was also mentioned by the priest that the Hmong people keep quiet. It was probably hard to hear this with the steam coming out of your ears.

I think it showed how easy it is for anyone from any background however remote, such as the Hmong, can be seduced by stupidity. To me the Hmong gang were portrayed as the worst in humans. Far worse then what the black or hispanic kids were doing because
Spoiler:
they would even prey on their own family. At the end it wasn't white people that Eastwood missed, it was the neighborhood. The ending was great as well, even though I would have loved to see him go to town with the Garand against all those 9mm bullet hoses.
I got pretty much the same thing out of it. I can't quite put my finger on it but it seems that Clint is a product of his environment, like gangs are. He rolled with the flow and joined. I think he knows a lot of his behavior is wrong and there were consequences to it that negatively affected his life. He sees the kid under the same peer pressures and steps in.
The kid's older sister could see through him a mile away.

Another scene(s) on the theme of respect
Spoiler:
Clint and the priest. Walt won't let the priest call him by his first name, "It's Mr. Kowalski(?)". The priest hasn't earned Walt's respect and the right to call him by his first name. After the drive-by, in Walt's house the priest calls him "Mr. Kowalski" and Clint replies "It's Walt".

re: Gran Torino (2008, Eastwood)

Saw it this afternoon in a packed theater, GREAT fucking movie.
A couple things:

WTF was with the chubby asian gansters thumb? It looked like he has an extra thumb growing out of it. Did anyone else notice that?

Was the dog played by the same actress who plays Vincent on LOST?
And speaking of LOST, doesn't Sue look like a younger Yunjin Kim?

Oh and one other thing, I don't care if you have a pipe wrench in your pants or how much of a badass you are, if you call a trio of black guys "spooks", you are getting the living fuck beaten out of you.

I just noted his bad acting skills, other than that flaw, very good movie.

in regards to the spooks line, true, but when you're Clint Eastwood it elicted the most noted response from the audience I saw it with, kind of like that scene in 'The Brave One' where Jodi Foster kills the black guys on the subway train - that got a huge round of applause at the Uptown theatre.

Actually Clint had a .45 auto in his belt, which will trump anybody trying to give you a beating, black or white.

He did, but no one knew that until the very end of the scene. And he would never have gotten the chance to use it in the real world. In fact it would have probably ended up being used on him.

I don't think so. And even if they did get the weapon, they would have ended up shooting innocent bystanders a block away. There is a reason gangs use bullet hoses like mac 10s, tec 9s or Uzis. They can't shoot straight. Though I have to admit, pushing the weapon towards the target while firing may add a few FPS on the bullet and it looks really cool holding it sideways.

re: Gran Torino (2008, Eastwood)

Talking to someone today, he pointed out parallels to
Spoiler:
The Shootist with John Wayne. If indeed this is Clint's on screen swan song, the last film of each actor.
Both characters were terminally ill and chose to go out in a blaze of glory.
Ron Howard idolized Wayne's gunfighter character which was pointing toward a life of violence. Wayne fixed that. The kid wanted to go take revenge on the gang but Eastwood locked him in the basement, got back at the gang and saved the kid from getting involved in violence and possible criminal record

re: Gran Torino (2008, Eastwood)

To bring this discussion back to the movie and not the IQ of some of the people who saw it; I give it an A. I too thought by the trailer it would be retired Dirty Harry cleans up the neighborhood. But it ended up being much more drama and character driven regarding his demons. I've known people like the main character, not happy with themselves or most others, always grumbling under their breath. I felt the actors were decent enough. The young lady who played Sue was excellent. Very charming and likeable. Enough to soften up a bitter old guy. Unless it's a stellar year this will be in my top ten for '09.

I also really enjoyed the film. Wasn't looking forward to it at all but had to go with my dad who has a broken leg to make sure he was ok. Ended up enjoying the hell out of it.

re: Gran Torino (2008, Eastwood)

I watched this today and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a bit predictable, and I agree that the acting was poor from the kids (Sue talking to the black guys, the kid after he was locked in the basement in particular, although reading about the casting call makes me understand a bit) but I thought Clint was really good and my girlfriend being Hmong and knowing her family and how she grew up, a lot of the stuff on screen was pretty close to reality. The remarks on the previous pages about racism or the portrayal of Asians really seemed to miss the boat. A lot of the comments made me chuckle, and I was hardly offended as an Asian person as you see Walt, a veteran from the Korean war, show that despite the slurs wasn't really racist himself.

I'm not sure I'd consider this for Best Picture or Clint for best actor, but it was enjoyable.

Saw it tonight, loved it.

Some people feel the need to nitpick, but it's going to be that way with all popular movies.

Oh well.

^ For those of us who have seen this film and don't worry about spoilers for it... well, you just spoiled another movie for us.

I finally saw this last night and really enjoyed it. If this is indeed Clint's swansong then it's a fitting way to go out. The man is Hollywood royalty, but it's obvious his days in front of the camera are numbered. My only complaint is that the Asian actors were all pretty bad, especially next to Clint, but the message of the story was powerful enough for me to overlook that. I don't think this was necessarily an Oscar-caliber film, but Clint should have been given a nom for his role.

Interesting movie with a great performance by Clint. I feel it could have been edited down a bit.

The racism is what is said and happens in real life, i see no excessive stereotyping.

Clint's character was the most racist of all, but that isn't unrealistic given his war history

The most characters were the asian gang. They came accross as lightweight then all of a sudden they are rapists and murderers !

Had some cliches, some bad acting, and not a great film by any means, but was definitely impressed by Clint's acting. Can't say the same for his song at the end though, haha...

I just watched this last night, and really enjoyed it. Some was rather cliche, but it didn't bother me. I went along for the ride, and it was a good one.
