I hate Chicago. I love Daniel Day-Lewis.
Funny how Javier Bardem was originally cast in the Day-Lewis role, that Daniel Plainview drank Anton Chigurh's milkshake. I hope, however, that he drinks the milkshakes of Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz. Judi Dench...not so much.

I was talking to my roommate this last night after watching Vanilla Sky.
me: I haven't seen Penelope Cruz in awhile
roommate: She's in this movie Nine that's coming out soon. I think she has a big role.
me: oh really? Whats it about.
roommate: Not sure. I know its a musical from the guy that did Chicago. Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson are in it too.
me: sounds like shit.
roommate: Oh yeah and Daniel Day Lewis is in it.
me: where can we get advance tickets?

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis is so determined to stay in character for his upcoming role in Nine - he can't stop speaking Italian.
The Oscar-winner plays lady-loving director Guido Contini in the movie musical, opposite a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Penelope Cruz.
And he's left his famous co-stars tongue tied, refusing to speak anything but his character's native language to those on set.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "He's always waving his arms and telling the chef to whip up some pasta."
I've read other things that Lewis always ends up staying in character for his movies. I imagine it must of been a pain in the ass on the set of "my left foot".

Looks half movie, half lingerie/perfume ad. In otherwords, just like Chicago.

so 2 movies coming out within 2 months of each other both called nine/9. Hollywood has one up'd it's self after the whole Armageddon/ Deep Impact and Dante's Peak/ Volcano thing.

I've been involved with this as a stage musical. Moreso than most musicals, it really needs the right director to be something wondrous rather than a complete turd... Yes, it's based on 8 1/2. On stage the main cast consists of the lead guy, a child version of himself, and about a dozen women--his wife, his mistress, his publicist, his mother, etc.
It *is* a rather plotless "lingerie musical" like Chicago, but with a very different feel--it's got the Italian sentimenal nostalgia vibe of, say, Amacord, rather than the sometimes overbearing/cheap cynicism of the Fosse/Chicago world...
DDL will have to sing a *lot*, his character has at least 5 or 6 songs in the stage version, and does require one hell of an actor/singer since it's the story of his mental breakdown... Raul Julia originated it on B'way. Jonathan Pryce tore up a London revival in the mid-90's, and Antonio Bandaras starred in a B'way revival in 2003. I'm hoping it's been done right--if so it could be a much better movie than Chicago...
