Looks very promising. Huge fan of Pedro, but his last few features left me cold. This has that classic Almodovar feel to it. Hope I'm right.

Julieta was a step in the right direction after the misfire I'm So Excited. This looks like a real return to form.

PAIN AND GLORY tells of a series of reencounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered: his childhood in the 60s, when he emigrated with his parents to a village in Valencia in search of prosperity, the first desire, his first adult love in the Madrid of the 80s, the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense, writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable, the early discovery of cinema, and the void, the infinite void that creates the incapacity to keep on making films. Pain and Glory talks about creation, about the difficulty of separating it from one’s own life and about the passions that give it meaning and hope. In recovering his past, Salvador finds the urgent need to recount it, and in that need he also finds his salvation.
This opens limited in NY/LA next week. Reviews from festivals have been very good. Currently at 95% on RT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pain_and_glory

It is screening tomorrow at NYFF. I tried to get a ticket but it sold it by the time I got into the queue. I'm seeing The Irishman tomorrow though, so I will see if any rush tickets become available since I'll already be there.

This is top tier Almodovar. Beautiful movie. This will probably be a Best Foreign Film nominee and could even get Banderas a nomination.

Wow this was great, Antonio Banderas gives the best performance of his career. Almodovar who's almost 70 just keeps hitting it out of the park.

4.5/5

... and the light bulb goes on.

I’ve been listening to year-end/best of lists on my usual podcasts and this was mentioned a few times. I kept wondering why the hell an old Michael Bay movie was popping up repeatedly.
