Fuck THAT.
It's a stand that will be more or less pointless. But if this movie doesn't see a theatrical release I will cancel my Netflix subscription in a heartbeat and if I ever want to watch any of their original programming I'll stream it illegally. What a crock of shit.

That's disappointing. Scorsese movies are always better on the big screen. They at least got to do 300 screens, right?

It was always going to be released in the minimum number of theaters to qualify for Oscars...but I suspect they will reach a middle ground somewhere beyond that. (which will probably also help with the Oscar campaign) But Netflix was the only one who ponied up the 100+mill for this movie - and that was so it would primarily only be viewed by their subscribers. (and maybe 6 months later a blu-ray/digital release) I'm sure Marty knew the terms when he accepted the money... was really hoping this would be ready this time next year though.

I don't get the Netflix theory on that, their original stance was to give viewers a choice. It isn't a choice if you can't see it in theaters.

I keep looking at that ad and can't believe it's real. What a coup for Netflix.

I really want to be excited for this but everyone involved is a generation past their prime. I just can't trust De Niro these days.

Is this the first time Scorcese's directed Pacino? Because it seems like something that would've happened years ago.

Looks like De Niro lost his dentures and is taking out his anger by shooting somebody in the ass.

From pagesix.com:
The Irishman’ could be Scorsese’s most expensive film yet
By Richard Johnson
“The Irishman” — starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino — is way over budget and set to become director Martin Scorsese’s most expensive movie ever.
Netflix bought the film for $105 million and agreed to a $125 million budget. But costs have soared to $175 million, said one insider, “and they haven’t done the music yet.”
The shoot, with locations all over the tri-state area, started in August and wrapped earlier this month.
“Scorsese has shot [for more than] 106 days — the most he has ever spent shooting a movie,” said another source.
Scorsese’s “Hugo” was said to have taken 105 days to film.
The movie is based on the book “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt about Frank Sheeran, a union boss played by De Niro, and his alleged part in the 1975 disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino).
But, since some scenes go back to 1959 and De Niro has to look like he’s 30, postproduction will require substantial CGI.
The cast includes Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano and Bobby Cannavale.
The movie isn’t scheduled to come out until 2019. Bo Dietl, who plays a Chicago capo who introduces Sheeran to Hoffa, joked, “I could be dead before the premiere.”
Scorsese’s publicist did not get back to me, and Netflix had no comment.
