Favorite Paul Newman film?

Shamefully I have to admit I've never seen many of his big films.
I have The Sting and Butch/Sundance but keep putting them off. I just ordered The Verdict, The Hustler and Cool Hand Luke - all blind buys.
He's always been great though - love his performance in The Hudsucker Proxy.

Cool Hand Luke
Butch Cassidy
Sting
He just exuded charisma and likeability. When I was very young when Cool Hand Luke first came out, I think the movie was the first time I cried while watching a film.

Re: Favorite Paul Newman film?
Hey guys, sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I was wondering if anyone could get their hands on a bigger version of the picture of Paul Newman sitting in class at the Actors Studio (can't post any links, but it's a pretty distinctive image). Biggest I was able to find so far is about 650x450.

The one below I made for you real quick, blew it up, ran a couple of filters. It looks okay, nothing special, maybe that will work.

I'm going with SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME (1956), only his second movie, and the one where he plays boxer Rocky Graziano. Steve McQueen plays a bit part as a Lower East Side gang member. 18 years later Newman and McQueen reunited for THE TOWERING INFERNO.
Newman's first movie, THE SILVER CHALICE (1954) is interesting for its stylized production design. And it's got Virginia Mayo, Natalie Wood (as a young Virginia Mayo), Lorne Greene and Jack Palance! Newman's always disowned it, but it's a fascinating movie, as much for the way it goes against the grain of the traditional Hollywood biblical movie as for its design. Newman plays the young Greek who sculpted the cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper. Something like that.
Dick Van Patten ("Eight is Enough") once recalled his stint as a child actor working on the TV series, "I Remember Mama." He played the younger brother in the family and he pointed out that in one season, three different actors played his older sister's boyfriend. Those three were: Paul Newman, James Dean and Jack Lemmon!

Nobody's Fool.
I liked Newman when he got older...much in the same way I liked Redford more when he lost those "pretty boy" looks.
The one Newman movie I've never gotten the appeal of: Slap Shot. Just a formula sports movie to me.

Road to Perdition. I'm really not a fan of The Sting, it wasn't bad, but it was incredibly boring and nothing about the story intrigued me.

I watched Cool Hand Luke on TCM over the weekend, and I still think my favorite part is when Luke mocks the big boss with his own "What We Got Here Is Failure To Communicate", with that great big Paul Newman smile on his face while delivering that line. Then, of course, BAM!
Those inmates wanted Luke to be Jesus as second coming, and, in the end, they got that. But for awhile there, when Luke was semi-pretending to be contrite with the Bosses, they thought they were wrong - that Luke was "just a man like them," and therefore wanted nothing more to do with him. Same as Jesus, for awhile there.
