Question: Do you watch films well after they have been out?

Ok this one came about by me wanting to be caught up on a few films before the sequel arrives.

I had not seen Casino Royale yet. It had been sitting on my shelf waiting for me to watch it. I saw the new Bond trailer and decided it was time. Not at all what I had expected. It was awesome and the credits were killer.

But why did I wait so long? Honestly, I have no answer. I just didn't watch it.

It got me thinking, are there more people out there that wait for a long time before they watch something?

You mean if I get it on disc, but don't watch it right away? Yes, sometimes I'm just not in the mood to watch it soon after buying it. Sometimes I get it on sale, or I just want to buy it when it comes out. Some people don't even open them until it's time to watch them.

If you're asking if I don't see a movie when it's new in theaters or on video, of course, plenty of movies fall through the cracks. Sometimes a movie comes and goes without much fanfare, and word of mouth elevates it later. Sometimes I'll go back and check out something with a particular director or actor I didn't know at the time.

Sometimes. It usually only happens with films I'm on the fence about, then I'll randonly catch it on cable or get a good review from a friend later on, which usually will cause me to watch the entire thing.

Unless I'm double dipping (in which case I'll usually only watch the new extras) I always watch a new movie/TV show ASAP.

Most movies I see in the cinema are more than a decade old.

Which is a good strategy, because if you see new releases, most audience members are less than a decade old.

If that's the case then maybe you should have posted this in DVD Talk, not Movie Talk?

If I had a nickel for every movie I wanted to see in the theater, waited for home video, and promptly left on the shelf for a year or more unwatched, I could probably buy 3 or 4 more Blu-Ray's of movies I wanted to see in the theater, didn't, and will now leave on my shelf for at least a year.

I try to get to them, but sometimes so much time has gone by I just lose interest in just trying to watch the movie, even though I still want to watch it. Hotel Rwanda is a good example, wanted to see it in theaters but never had a chance, bought it on DVD when it first came out, never felt the mood to watch it, now i'm just sick of considering it and usually end up watching something stupid.

Yes, sometimes I wait a while. I got the movies "The Dentist", "The Dentist 2" (2 years ago), "The Game Plan", and "Young Guns" (2-3 months ago) and I still haven't watched them
