Well, good movies have been made from dumber ideas, but your friend's not wrong. Of all the things time travel could be used for, the notion that it's mostly a murdered body disposal system is pretty weak and random.

I hated that movie and I hate how every thriller/horror movie uses the 6th Sense twist ending now.

I agree with this. There's really no need for it. Audiences are very used to suspending disbelief for the situation of two different actors playing the same character at different times in their life. I've never really liked it when they put "old age" makeup on a young person to show them later in life (like Winona Ryder at the end of Edward Scissorhands). Just hire an older actor to play them at that age.

That said, I'm looking forward to this movie and I don't expect the makeup on JGL to really bother me.

I was bothered by the Bruce Willis makeup at first but have grown to dig it. They usually do cast any actor they want and just kinda shoo it away and say this actor is this other actor but younger and let the audience deal with it. Haven't seen a younger actor put on prosthetics too many times to look like a younger version of a well know older actor so think it's pretty novel.

Haha. I remember that there were people on this forum who had a similar compaint about Inception.

FWIW, while he overall liked Inception, he found that movie's plot rather out there as well.

The JGL visual manipulation looks ridiculous. What were they thinking.
I just laugh every time I see the trailer or TV spot.

Fixed. As long as we're being preposterous, we may as well be correct.

I've never seen Carnival of Souls. I guess I know the ending now.

I always found it odd that Bruce Willis popped up out of nowhere at the end of Carnival of Souls. The twist ending works a lot better in The Sixth Sense since they established Bruce's character previously.

You thought that was odd? I thought it silly that water could kill the carnival.

Anyone remember when Johnson said that he was making a "spiritual sequel to Blade Runner". I just remembered that. That'd be cool if it's all poetic and shit. But I'm not seeing it from the trailers. I wonder if there was a grander vision in the begining.

All the reviews I've seen say it's a very tight, clever script.

Officially labeled "Fresh" on RT:

93% (44 reviews)
Consensus: As thought-provoking as it is thrilling, Looper delivers an uncommonly smart, bravely original blend of futuristic sci-fi and good old-fashioned action.

this movie is a no-brainer for me and i'll be seeing it this weekend for sure. the positive reviews are comforting however.

Didn't Bruce Willis already do a movie where's he confronted by a younger version of himself called "The Kid"?

Yes, but people who watched that movie contracted AIDS because it was so horrible it gave people AIDS. They've tried to remove all the AIDS this time.

Saw this last night. There were the typical holes that time travel movies have but overall a really fun movie. Very different overall plotwise. The use of time travel is still weird and not consistent with regard to paradoxes but still. Great characters with unique motivations and they play off each other really well.
