For the time the FX were good, and they are pretty creative, but who today praises them against today's standards? If anything most fans concede the FX have charm but have aged poorly.

I'm not too surprised by the poll results. Horror is just as subjective as comedy. I think most of the movies mentioned are atleast well made.

Easily Rosemary's Baby. That movie is a snore-fest. I have never understood how anyone could find it remotely scary.

I didn't really like Jaws much, but I haven't seen it in at least 10 years. Maybe if I watched it again, and not hope for the shark around every corner, I would like it more.

Judging by the results of this poll, Friday The 13th shouldn't have been an option. I probably would of been better off going with The Shining or Alien.

If white clown face paint is all it took to pass someone off as a zombie back then, then I guess you're right. Planet of the Apes was made a decade before and it's makeup effects make Dawn's look like a joke.

Friday The 13TH. It shouldn't buy on any list except the worst list of all time. All the films on the list, though I don't like some of them, have some merit. Friday The 13th has no merit at all.

I went with Nightmare on Elm Street.

It's an okay movie (though the franchise soon fell into awful camp), but it never really clicked with me for some reason. Neither did Freddy Krueger. Never saw what the big deal was supposed to be.

I mean it. Not even a little bit.

In fact, it isn't even a GOOD movie. It totally, totally blows in almost every capacity.

People who hold that movie up as a classic are worse than Pol-Pot!
Absolutely. When I saw it, I actually thought I had rented the wrong movie because i figured there was no way ANYONE could consider this a decent movie, let alone a classic.

To be fair, PotA was a big budget movie with a huge star. DotD was made for 35 cents.

I agree the concept can be frightening but I don't know anyone personally that has watched The Exorcist for the first time, not when it first came out but much later, and found it frightening.

If it really held up over time, it would still be frightening a lot of people. It was scary then because it was the first of it's kind, in a way.

Approximate Budgets

Planet of the Apes (1968)......$5,800,000 (adjusted for 1979 = $12,126,734.09. almost 20X the budget of DOTD)
Dawn of the Dead(1979)........$650,000

Yeah. It's an awesome movie no doubt. I just thought as a horror film classic someone was bound to find it overrated. I myself love all three of the Evil Dead films but prefer the sequels.

The movie has little in common with the book. Kubrick used the title and the name of the hotel and characters. That's about it. Oh and it has Jack Nicholson being, well, Jack Nicholson. Yawn.

Huge letdown of a film, when the book is such a masterpiece.
