What an odd decade of best picture winners, more than the usual amount of tear jerkers/family drama. I suspect Platoon will dominate this decade.
An underwhelming selection of films. Voted for The Last Emperor.
Raging Bull
Wow really lame list for that decade. I voted Amadeus because you can actually make a case for it being the best movie of 1984, though I prefer Once Upon a Time in America.
I voted for Amadeus because of the super cool Falco soundtrack. ;)
Tough to pick... Only one movie in the list that does not deserve Best Picture.
Platoon
Amadeus.
Wow - I've only seen 3 of those films. That doesn't seem right. I've been putting off seeing Platoon forever for some reason, and I'm waiting for the Blu-Ray on Last Emperor.
Out of the three I've seen (Amadeus, Rain Man, Driving Miss Daisy), I'll say Amadeus. |
The Last Emperor is clearly the best movie in that list, even though I think another nominated movie, Hope and Glory, should have won Best Picture that year.
Platoon. My 2nd favorite film about 'Nam, right after Full Metal Jacket.
Platoon
The most watchable one (for me) is Rain Man, but I'll admit Platoon is probably the best film.
The Last Emperor
Tough choice. Platoon was good but I liked Apocalypse more, so I'll pick Emperor.
OT but what happened to John Lone? He was great and then like dropped off the planet? |
Amadeus. By far.
So many films I fucking loathe in that list. Ugh. And the ones I like, are barely the best films of their years.
Of the list, I actually think Driving Miss Daisy is the best of the lot, followed closely by Platoon and Amadeus. The rest can all go rot. |
#1 Amadeus
#2 Platoon Pass on the rest. |
Platoon and then maybe vangelis, the rest, meh.

I would go with Amadeus. It's top-notch filmmaking and acting, a great story, and I remember watching it as a kid and liking it just as much as when I saw it again as an adult. Plus, it has always had incredible replay value to me. It's just so easy to watch; it has a bit of everything.
Amadeus. Of all of them that's the only one that ropes me in every time I see any part of it on TV and it's great every time.
