I'm going to pick LIFE. Because it was such a beautiful story and I loved the ending. Plus Martin Lawrence is in it, and Bernie Mac was in it too (RIP). This was the first movie that I found out about Bernie Mac who was so freakin hilarious in it playing a gay character lol

Technically, Dreamgirls, but since it's not really an "Eddie Murphy movie", I went with The Nutty Professor. While I've also seen, and enjoyed, the first four films listed, it's the only one I own, so I guess it's my favorite.

My top 3:

Beverly Hills Cop: Exciting, funny, and snappy. Succeeds at everything it wants to do, one of the better cop comedies I've ever seen.

Trading Places: Exceptionally goofy but still very funny, as much credit going to Murphy as it does to the rest of the cast (Jamie Lee Curtis at her finest!).

The Nutty Professor: Occasionally crude, but the last great comedy movie Eddie Murphy has made to date, structured around his tour-de-force performance as all of the characters. Of them, the highlight is Sherman, allowing Eddie to turn in a wonderfully low-key performance.

The Beverly Hills Cop and Nutty Professor sequels are amazingly awful. The third BHC is one of the least entertaining movies I've ever seen. I want BHC IV to be good but so far I have no evidence that Eddie Murphy should ever make a sequel. I am also baffled by the popularity of Coming to America, which featured zero chemistry between Murphy and the lead actress, was edited in a blender and still came out a good half hour to 45 minutes too long. There were some good gags, sure, but I don't get why some name it as a comedy classic.

Trading Places but as much for the others in the cast as for Murphy.

What - no Pluto Nash on the list?

Coming To America. The 2nd half of the film is a cheesy love story, but the first half with the multiple characters played by Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall is sheer brilliance. That 2nd scene in the barber shop(Joe Louis vs. Rocky Marciano) is one of the all-time funniest moments in movie history.

Trading Places is great as well, and a better overall film than Coming To America. But that's more of an ensemble piece.

Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hrs are both very overrated. I've never understood all the praise.

The Nutty Professor is terrific.......when the Klumps are together onscreen. Otherwise it's either a cheesy romance or an unfunny comedy with Buddy Love, one of Murphy's most obnoxious characters. The irony is when they centered the sequel around the first movie's strongest element, the Klumps, it wound up being a piece of crap.

The rest range from bad to just ok, so no need to comment on them.

I really like Trading Places. Everything except for gorilla bit was great. True though, it was an ensemble piece.

Bowfinger is my favorite, but I think it is more of a Steve Martin movie. After that, it is Coming to America then The Golden Child.

Trading Places. First R rated movie I ever seen. I would watch my parent's VHS tape all the time.

Nothing beats his 48 Hrs./Trading Places/Coming to America hat trick. Make it four in a row if you include Delirious.

This thread remind me that I've got the Eddie Murphy Collection (Beverly Hills Cop/Trading Places/48 Hours) in my unwatched DVD pile.

Beverly Hills Cop, for sure. Probably 48 Hours second and then Trading Places.
I also really liked The Golden Child.

DreamGirls.

Eddie should take Alan Arkin's Oscar (it belongs to Eddie anyway) and beat him over the head with it. He was robbed!
