Will Smith is a little less than 5 years younger than Pitt. If they're going to go with a franchise then they should definitely get someone in their thirties.

If Will Smith plays Captain America then I'm moving to France as fast as I possibly can. And once I'm actually comfortable and settled there I'll blow my brains out with a 12-gage Shotgun on the steps of the Louvre.

Marvel knows better.

The reason they got film rights to their characters is to stay true to the comics and because other studios were fucking them up like casting Michale Clarke Duncan as Kingpin!
I loved Duncan as Kingpin. Was the only reason you disliked him because they changed the role from white to black?

And maybe he's too old now, but I've always seen Mark Valley as Captain America.

The film as whole was...mediocre at best. Everything was crappy. I don't mind the race changes as long as it's totally in honor of the character's manner. The Kingpin in DD wasn't layered or massive in developed context. And another reason for Duncan as KP was..well..how many big men can pull off the role? Duncan can act...just depends on what you give him.

Cap should only be played by an actor that can match this look:

Marvel has debunked the rumor saying they, or no one else has even talked to Smith.

UPDATED: Ain't it Cool checked Luke's story with "multiple sources from Marvel" who say that whatever the actor may have heard is completely wrong. According to AIC's report "Marvel never offered the part, nor did they approach or entertain a conversation about Will Smith for 'Captain America'.

Wooo!

Matt Damon actually wouldn't be too bad. Wonder how ripped he could get.

Will Smith?

That would be even worse than casting Will Smith as James West. I mean, we all know how a black man would go over acting as an authority/law enforcement figure in the 1800's right? It's not that African American's can't do it (clearly they can), but in the 1800's they would have gotten lynched for even trying. It would be completely absurd to cast Will Smith as James West. Oh, wait....

I hate the P.C. crowd. Yeah, Will Smith as Captain America! That would work as well as Steve Buscemi as Shaft. Come on....

(Of course, this has to be utter B.S. - as many have pointed out.)

The only reason that these things get traction is that there is so much recent precedent for that kind of P.C, trying to grab attention type casting.

It actually would be more plausible that they did experiments in the military on black men than on white men. So a reworking of the story in that way would be plausible, IMO.

However, with it following Hancock so soon, I don't think Smith would work that well in the role.

I vote Damon for the role, if they feel they have to go for a name.

So I asked Will about this last night, and needless to say he put the final nail in that rumor's coffin.

Actually Marvel put the final nail in that rumor's coffin about a week ago.

There could be more nails. What about from a set designer? Grip?

When it comes to Captain America, I think Marvel is the horse.
