Which movie do you consider the best, or your favorite of 1976?

For me it's Taxi Driver, which is scorsese's masterpiece, IMO. Rocky is fantastic, and I like Network. Assault on Precinct 13 is also one of my favorites, though I didn't include it as an option.

Taxi Driver all the way. My top 10 for that year:

1. Taxi Driver
2. 1900
3. Killing of a Chinese Bookie
4. All the President's Men
5. Cria cuervos
6. Woyzeck
7. The Tenant
8. Carrie
9. Je t'aime moi non plus.
10. Edvard Munch

Honorable mention goes to: Tracks, Assault on Precinct 13, Bound for Glory, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Monsieur Klein and Fellini's Casanova. I can't stand Network - it's smug, self-satisfied, and worst of all, unfunny.

Rocky deserved the Best Picture Oscar, but it was a helluva year for movies.

Wow, didn't realize so many good movies that year. Have to go with Rocky because it's the one I rewatch the most.

Taxi Driver. I have always hated Rocky. It's nothing more than a rip off of Somebody Up There Likes Me with too many phony feel good scenes added on.

It's a toss up for me between Rocky and Taxi Driver. I guess I enjoy Rocky more but admit Taxi Driver is a better movie.

From the list: Taxi Driver. Easily one of De Niro's best performances and one of Scorsese's best films.

Not on the list: Assault on Precinct 13. One of the first films I remember watching as a kid. This is one of Carpenter's best and fully displays all of his trademark style that would come to define his early career.

Really close between Rocky, Taxi Driver & Marathon Man, but have to give edge to the Rock.

it's not the longer version, but this would be my number one choice.

Assault was on my honorable mention list. This sequence still shocks:

I've bought this movie a lot on video and never get tired of watching this over the years. But I don't understand the hoopla over this movie from the 70's. I would think DEATH WISH,WALKING TALL,BILLY JACK or DIRTY HARRY would have a bigger following.

Absolutely no question that the answer is Taxi Driver.

I think the Academy got it wrong.

Cria Cuervos ... and The Tenant are both wonderful and significant pieces of cinema, but you can't deny the power of Taxi Driver.
