"Transsiberian"

Didn't see another thread for this yet, but caught an afternoon matinee of "Transsiberian" today and it's the second excellent thriller I've seen in a week (the other being "Tell No One"). I believe Ebert gave this four stars a few weeks ago and he was right on the money. It's quite a slow burner and just gets better as it goes along. I'd give it 9/10. Definitely catch it.

It opens here in Omaha, NE next weekend. I haven't seen a trailer but Brad Anderson and some of the reviews will make me go. I loved "The Machinist".

3.5 stars, he seemed to have reservations about the finale (as many critics seem to).

I've been meaning to watch this but haven't had the chance unfortunately.

I've enjoyed everything I've seen so far from Brad Anderson. I hope to get the chance to see this soon.

And please go see it. At the very least, take in a matinee.

Excellent film. Brad Anderson is 3 for 3. I haven't seen Happy Accidents or his Masters of Horror episode etc, but wow, he can direct a film.

Happy Accidents is a fine little flick. Stay away from MOH though

Also agreed. Even the Blu-Ray has standard 5.1 sound to boot. Disappointing.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I have to ask, for those who have seen the film:

Spoiler:
Who is the "badguy" in the pair supposed to be? The Spanish guy or his GF? Because the movie leads you to believe it's the guy, but the DVD making of makes mention of the GF being the mastermind.

DullandWitless 12-08-08 08:25 PM

Hmm, added to my Netflix360 Q.

Spoiler:
I never got the impression that the girl was supposed to be the "mastermind" by the end of the movie; I personally thought the guy was the guiltier of the two as well (though the girl is hardly an innocent). It's odd they implied otherwise on the making-of.

I just saw this last week and liked it quite a bit. I haven't seen any other Brad Anderson movies; I'll have to check Session 9 and The Machinist.

Both of those are fantastic movies. Session 9 desperately needs a re-release (the SD DVD has a 2.0 English track and a... wait for it... 5.1 FRENCH track. At least, the Canadian disc does). Session 9 also holds the claim to fame as the first feature-length film released in theatres to be filmed on HD video (1080i, if I remember correctly)

Saw this about a month ago on BD, and I agree, very solid.

Wow, not many people have watched this I guess. Saw it the other night. It was one of the most suspenseful films I've seen in a while. Loved the classic use of music to ramp up the tension, and the violence/gore was perfectly used to serve the suspense.

Re: "Transsiberian"

Definitely a solid movie that deserved a wider audience. I've recommended it to several people since I saw it a year or so ago.

Re: "Transsiberian"

Finally got around to seeing this, a fairly well-made thriller and I'm leaning towards blaming Hayden Christensen's brother, who is a producer and apparently a strong-arming one, for the reason as to why Vanishing sucked.

I do wish that more cares was made with thrillers to make the same points/clues that the characters discover coincide with the audience. For instance:
Spoiler:
The focusing of the lone suitcases, hinting at the switch or Mara noticing the drug dealer with the mirrored glasses. I did love Anderson's choice of having the full-black contacts on Mortimer after she killed Carlos, an awesome touch.

Completely recommended and look forward to how Anderson rebounds.

I thought it was a good movie, but I wanted to kill that bitch from the beginning.
