Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Any Londoners here? I'm thinking of making a trip to England to see it. We've got no IMAX screens here in Denmark and I figure London is the best bet to catch it in IMAX.

Is IMAX worth it? I'll just take a flight and be back the following day. Any help?

Damn. You are a person who really wants to see TDKR in IMAX. Enough to travel to another country.

Is it worth it, is my question? Truth be told, it's a pretty short flight, and doesn't cost a lot. So with a couple of friends one could make a trip out of it.
Can someone sum up, just briefly, what the IMAX deal is about?

Yes. I saw TDK in IMAX. Was worth every penny. The image is beautiful and the action totally deserves those IMAX moments.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Good. Thanks. Pardon my ignorance, but is only PART of the movie in IMAX... or is it the whole deal?

The 2:35 image is cropped from a 16:9 imax image, correct? If so, it'll bug me given that Nolan probably envisioned the 16:9 frame... like the pan and scan problem.

In the case of TDK, only parts of the movie were filmed in IMAX. The full opening bank sequence and some of the panning outside shots later in the film. I'm probably missing a few others. It would be insanely expensive to shoot the full movie in IMAX film.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

All the big action scenes were in IMAX. ALong w/ some panning shots. I'm assuming this was only multiplied for TDKR.

It's been confirmed the IMAX footage is about one hour's worth. Dark Knight only had mostly the action sequences done in IMAX. The IMAX footage isn't cropped, but framed that way, which is something like 1.78. So no pan and scan. And DEFINITELY worth seeing in IMAX.

I didn't think so.
Only other IMAX I've seen was SUPERMAN RETURNS and only the airplane scene was worth it.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

SR wasn't even made for IMAX. There's no way that tops TDK in image quality and of value's worth. That's going beyond the quality of the movie itself. We're talking specs here.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I thought that IMAX footage is filmed at something closer to a 4:3 ratio?

I remember seeing the TDK blu-ray and thinking that some of the image was cropped to fit it to 16:9.

IMAX is shot at 1.44:1. So, yes, TDK was cropped on BD. But based on Nolan's comments, it seems they composed the IMAX shots with 1.78:1 in mind with safety for 1.44:1.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I did a lot of experimenting with it, and if you mask out the Blu-ray's 1.78:1 IMAX scenes with borders that match the scope-shot scenes, it's a perfect match to the DVD which was uniformly scope.

I think I've said this before but this Bane is probably one of the few villains in a Superhero movie that kinda scares me. Like, I GET what Cat Woman is saying about fearing him...

The fact that they could convey that to me in trailers is kinda cool.

I hope he delivers that scary energy throughout the film.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I too am certain that Nolan will not leave anything open for more in his world of Batman. FWIW, I think the fact that 2 of the 3 movies contain the words Dark Knight and the first was the only one to use the name Batman says a lot itself. He is not doing what other filmmakers did and make a franchise to continue without an end. He has instead chosen to tell a complete story of the Dark Knight the best he can in three movies with the characters he feels relevant. Hope this one proves me right and him successful.

This is looking fantastic. Hoping it far exceeds my expectations. That would make up for my sheer disappointment with Prometheus.

If anyone remembers video of all the on-screen Batmobiles being gathered for an event, this is what it was for.

It's a CW TV special which pays tribute to Batman's ride in its many versions.

Also:

During a press conference, Christopher Nolan chewed out a reporter for nearly giving away the film's ending:

and:

Best Buy is playing host to a new documentary titled "The Dark Knight Reborn", which is about the making of the trilogy:

Really? Not to me, a Clayface circa Animated Series, now THAT was freaky. Another terrorist leader though is so so especially when they just show him and Batman boxing with one another, takes away the allure.

He's intimidating but not scary. Granted if I met the guy on the street...I would be disturbed by him.
